Description Of Duties
The Houston Health Department is actively searching for several talented Clinic Assistants to perform the following functions:

• Assists in various capacities obtains and documents height, weight, pulse, and blood pressure of patients, collects and labels urine and blood samples. Performs simple tests or sends specimens to laboratory for analysis
• Conducts and documents internal quality assurance measures of all transactions
• Be currently certified in basic life support (adult, child, and infant)
• Verifies immunization history
• Performs limited client interviews, distributes educational materials, obtains vital signs
• Administers immunizations according to standards of practice
• Assist with registration functions; interprets and inputs information into patient information systems to enhance service utilization
• Adheres to HIPAA privacy notice practices and obtains consent for services
• Listens, respects, and promotes patients’ perspectives in achieving customer satisfaction

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or record boxes (up to 50 pounds) and/or very long periods of standing and walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate. Completion of a standardized program of medical education that provides training in medically assisting patients.
Experience Requirements
Six (6) months of related experience in a medical clinic, hospital or other health care facility are required.
License Requirements
Medical Assistant certification is required.
Completion of basic CPR certification required.
Medical Assistant and CPR certification must be maintained and current for continued employment.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
