SALARY RANGE (Depending on Experience): $25.93 hr - $27.51 hr
We base salary and position offers on experience and an internal equity analysis.
Employment Status: Non-Exempt; Regular; Full time (37.5 hrs)

OFFICE OF CLIENTS’ RIGHTS ADVOCACY
DRC has a contract with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), State of California, to provide Clients’ Rights Advocacy services for clients of each of the 21 regional centers located statewide. We are a team of zealous advocates and disability generalists who are building a culture of teamwork and working for a world where all disabled people have power, are treated with dignity and respect, and make their own decisions.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Clerical Support position provides clerical and administrative support to a supervising attorney in OCRA and works under the supervision of that supervising attorney. The position requires attending virtual and in-person meetings to take notes and provide communication support, as well as strong computer, proofreading, and time management skills.
The successful candidate is eligible for a hybrid schedule working both remotely and in-office and must be available to work from the Disability Rights California downtown Los Angeles office, currently located at 350 S. Bixel Street, at least two days/week.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential functions are the job responsibilities an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. Clerical Support essential functions include:
Support
- Use electronic case management software to create project and/or case files, including recording required demographic data and maintaining accurate and timely information.
- Travel with and provide clerical support to the supervising attorney when conducting or attending outreach, education, and training.
- Proofread and format all written work produced by the supervising attorney.
- Take written notes during virtual and in-person meetings.
- Create documents, emails, and presentations from dictated content.
- When in-person, provide access to physical materials like books and files and organize desk and materials.
- Prepare materials for mailing and shipping.
- Read out loud documents, reports, and correspondence as needed for content access.
- Provide communication support during in-person and virtual meetings, calls, and events.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Ability to pay close attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
- Proficiency with Windows-based computer applications including Microsoft Office software such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 1 – 2 years related experience or training.
- Familiarity with videoconferencing software like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Minimum keyboarding speed of 45 net words per minute.
- Flexability and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to handle difficult situations patiently, tactfully, and with empathy.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions, work well under pressure and deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with or contacts in ethnic or language distinct communities.
- Experience working for non-profit or social service organizations.
- Associate degree in a related field from a two-year college or technical school.
- Knowledge of statewide resources available to people with developmental disabilities.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively with a variety of organizations and individuals with diverse perspectives, including people with disabilities, administrators, advocacy groups, and the public, and to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
- Life experience as a person with a disability or direct experience as a caregiver of a person with a disability.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional travel required. Ability to travel occasionally for activities such as out-of-town meetings, team meetings, training, or outreach activities up to 20% of the time. More travel may be required to meet program or contract requirements.
