JOB SUMMARY
Independently manage available resources (manpower and equipment) to move freight in the safest and most cost-effective manner to meet or exceed customer expectations and to achieve Distribution Center or Terminal company goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide coordination of office and/or dock functions with management of city operations for efficient damage-free pickup, loading and delivery of freight.
2. Administer safety programs which encourage a safe work environment and focus on prevention of accidents and injuries.
3. Monitor, evaluate and provide recommendations to city operations personnel to maintain efficient processes to improve P&D operations performance.
4. Develop cost-saving methods for increased pick-up and delivery productivity.
5. Responsible to ensure all audit items are in compliance.
6. Recruit, develop and retain qualified personnel to ensure effective operations in support of company’s mission and goals.
7. Conduct performance reviews and focuses on development and career planning.
8. Communicate clear performance expectations to ensure high-performance work environment and proactively provide specific, balanced, and timely coaching/feedback to reinforce and encourage high performance and promote a culture of teamwork.
9. Project and schedule drivers based on forecasted business levels. Maintain adequate staffing levels of qualified, experienced drivers.
10. Establish and maintain a good working relationship with labor by resolving problems in a fair and timely manner. Maintain knowledge of the labor contract and coach and administer discipline in a fair and consistent manner.
11. Ensure compliance with government and company regulations, policies, and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. High School diploma or GED.
2. Three (3) years of operations supervisory experience or 18 months operations supervisory experience plus three (3) years operations experience.
3. Effective organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
4. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities.
6. Must be flexible, willing to work any schedule, including weekends and holidays, in all types of weather.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics or related field.
2. Five (5) years successful operations leadership experience.
3. Knowledge of company policy, procedures and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
4. Familiarity with mainframe computers and/or PC applications.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires the ability to spend long hours standing while using office equipment and computers. Occasionally sit. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Continually speaking and hearing, giving and receiving directions. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
