Job Description
Job Summary

Provides aftercare services to youth while helping to facilitate their successful reintegration into the community. Collaborates with youth to help them achieve their education goals within the context of their individual re-entry plan. The Re-entry Specialist begins working with youth and their family at the time a youth starts a Children’s Village residential program. While the youth is addressing treatment issues in the program, the Re-entry Specialist works with the family to assess the strengths, barriers, needs, and risks, of the youth, parents/caregivers, family, and community. Uses criminogenic risk assessments along with input from the court, family, and youth to develop a transitional plan designed to connect high/moderate risks and needs to community providers. Maintains weekly contact with youth and/or family to evaluate progress on Transitional Planning. Reports progress to the Court Caseworker, writes monthly progress reports and submits them to the court. Writes court reports and appears in court hearings when necessary for assigned youth on caseload. Participates in parent/guardian education groups and classes and assists with the facilitation of other community-based initiatives. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related field of study

2. Have had two (2) years of full-time work experience in counseling, casework or related work involving interviewing and investigative practices, procedures, and recommendations

3. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.

Special Requirements

1. Must maintain a valid United States driver’s or chauffeur’s license.

2. Must submit to immunizations as requested by the Department of Health & Human Services and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.

3. Before beginning employment, candidates will be required to provide Children’s Village with documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect. In addition, applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing Children’s Village to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974.

Applicants for positions at Children’s Village will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following:


(a) Child Abuse or Neglect

(b) A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire.

Overview of Employee Benefits:
