Loudoun County Department of Family Services (DFS) seeks a dedicated, professional candidate for its Family Services Case Aide position in the Clinical and Residential Services Division, which houses Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations and Assessments /In-Home.

The candidate will work across both programs. The successful candidate will join the Protective Services Unit in a diverse department that envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. The Department supports individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination. This work is multifaceted, as outlined in its core responsibilities:

  • Assists in the implementation of service plans developed by social worker; transports children/families to counseling, appointments, or community resources; and provides childcare during meetings with families.
  • Collaborates with specialists in the development of client case records, management plans, court preparation documents, and educational material.
  • Assists law enforcement in criminal investigations and sensitive child forensic interviews.
  • Assists specialists with purchasing items to assist clients.
  • Responds to requests from specialists to assist with services to clients or families.
  • Provides administrative support to DFS Unit or program.
  • Conducts extensive client background research under short time constraints to ensure accurate and timely completion of case management initiatives.
  • Prepares written statements, case documentation, and court documents.
  • Demonstrates compliance with County, Department, and Division policies and procedures, and federal/state laws and regulations, as applicable to position.
  • Provides administrative support for clients which includes transportation, child supervision, and supervised visitation and documentation.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and facilitates case management meetings with clients, investigators, specialists, and other staff.

The ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Ability to understand the role of the Specialists in meeting mandates.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize time and responsibilities without constant direction.
  • Ability to be comfortable around children and adolescents of all ages.
  • As applicable, uses bilingual skills to perform job tasks by translating verbal statements/information or written documentation.
  • Ability to work with the medical community and the parents of abused children in a professional manner.
  • Ability to use good judgement and be able to make critical decisions reflecting the best interest of children client who are at risk.
  • Ability to engage children and teens.

Hiring salary commensurate with experience

Job Requirements

High school diploma: two (2) years of directly related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of clinical and residential mandates and services.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Special Requirements

  • This position is considered essential personnel and will require report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency (e.g., weather, transportation, disaster).
  • May be required to work and may be assigned to an alternate worksite(s) to carry out duties that support operational needs.
  • The successful candidate must be available for duty beyond normal workday which includes nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position.

Successful candidates must possess and maintain a valid resident driver's license and undergo driving record, child protective services, and criminal background checks.
