    Position Information

    There is one vacancy with the Department of Facility Maintenance, Public Building & Electrical Maintenance Division, located in Honolulu. Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 6:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m., and may include weekends and holidays. Under the general direction of the Director & Chief Engineer and/or Deputy, this position is responsible for the management of the Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division's programs and activities including the following: repair, maintenance and renovation for all public buildings and appurtenant structures; construction, installation, maintenance and repair work for street, park, mall, outdoor, and other City lighting and electrical and communication facilities; contracting and procurement of services of contractors for emergency repair work; directs and administers major facility and preventive maintenance programs; coordination and direction of all janitorial and utility activities at City-owned buildings, including leased facilities; administration of City employees' parking, motor pool and security of Honolulu Hale, Honolulu Municipal Building, etc.; and administration of parking management services.

    Special Work Requirements: This position must respond on a 24/7 basis in the event of an emergency and is considered a Disaster Response Worker.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
    Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with major work in business administration, public administration or a related field.

    Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
    Three years of experience in planning and administering a variety of building construction and maintenance work.

    Such experience must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of public administration; the tools, equipment, materials, supplies and work practices and processes used in building construction and maintenance; and laws, codes, ordinances and regulations governing building construction and maintenance work. And the ability to plan, organize, direct and coordinate a varied and comprehensive maintenance and repair program for public buildings and facilities; establish policies and work procedures; prepare and interpret construction plans and specifications; and prepare contracts, correspondence and reports; prepare budget estimates.

    LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
    Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3) prior to appointment.
