AFC Portland is looking for a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join the established leadership team to help become the “Starbucks of Retail Medical Services.” The CMO will be a physician leader overseeing over 20 providers across six clinics, with the proven capability of leading a team of physicians, MDs and DOs, as well as Physician Assistants, while embedding the organization’s purpose and values within. Networking in the industry and helping hire the right physicians and other providers is a key requirement of this leader. He/She/They will be a role model for other providers and the broader clinical team toward embodying AFC’s Core Purpose and Core Values in everyday conduct. The CMO will be a “player/coach;” an excellent clinician and leader that patients love and want to return to for entrusting their care; he/she/they exemplifies and is a role model to other providers in handling challenging patients.
Specific Responsibilities
- Partner with Operations Managers to create agenda for provider staff meetings; facilitating them to achieve a high-level of engagement and accountability.
- Represent AFC as a spokesperson and medical expert and thought leader at off-site events monthly.
- Evaluate and execute other service offerings based on market analysis and AFC Portland capabilities.
- Interview and hire providers, adhering to the internal hiring process.
- Partner with Operations Managers, clinic managers, and other organizational development personnel to train and onboard the new providers ensuring a high-quality experience.
- Recommend, present, and administer policies and procedures which relate to provider practices.
- Collaborate with Operations Managers to maintain the standards for the clinics re: the necessary equipment, supplies, and medications to efficiently serve the patient base as established by the franchise and local requirements.
- Work with all executive staff and clinic management to promote teamwork and help ensure a positive and productive work environment.
- Manage the provider team and supervise (including facilitating other physicians to supervise) PAs in a busy group medical practice – ensure proper follow-up, protocols & policies are being followed, performance management, etc.
- Serve a champion of various established lines of service: Urgent Care, Wellness Primary Care, Occupational Health, and Immigration Physicals.
- Monitor provider documentation in the patient chart (create a sampling-based chart audit schema) and suggest areas of improvement from a clinical, risk management, and/or reimbursement perspective.
- Be savvy in using electronic tools; become a super user in DocuTap/EMR and internal productivity tools (Google Apps, ADP Scheduling tools, etc.)
- Collaborate with the Managing Partner and the management team to create performance evaluations, create and monitor development plans, and coordinate any disciplinary action, including termination.
- Network with other AFC Chief Medical Officer and Medical Directors across the system to leverage best practices.
- Innovate with the Sales and Marketing Director to position the brand and the practice in the community well, while serving as a catalyst for the sales team to grow the Occupational Health business for the practice.

- An expert manager of providers with high emotional intelligence and persuasive engagement abilities.
- Substantial years of either within family medicine; emergency medicine, or as an internist or general practitioner delivering care to patients.
- MD or DO with a current license to practice in the State of Oregon as well as the ability to obtain licensure in the State of Washington.
