JOB TITLE: Chief Mail Clerk (IBT Rep)

SALARY RANGE: $30,479

DEPT/DIV: Office Services

SUPERVISOR: Assistant Manager, Office Services

LOCATION: 2 Broadway

HOURS OF WORK: 9:00 am – 5:30 pm (7 ½ hours)

DEADLINE: 4/28/2023

SUMMARY
:

This represented position is accountable for the daily shipping and receiving operations of MTA Headquarters and MNR Headquarters. Position maintains a working knowledge of all relative shipping items, such as available services, general knowledge of cost, delivery and pick-up times, special handling requirements, and proper packaging methods.


RESPONSIBILITIES
:

  • Position may pick up and deliver mail items at other MTA locations.
  • Position may operate copy machine or related office equipment such as sorting and binding machines, postage meters, and similar equipment. The position will also advise on workload issues to supervisor so that supervisor is aware of any pending backlogs, or special "rush" orders.
  • Position may aid in distribution of office supplies. This includes advising supervisor of supply situation such as low levels of certain items, out of stock, or a surplus.
  • Position organizes mail cart for smooth and effective delivery of mail.
  • Position distributes, pickups, delivers, sorts, and organizes mail including all related mail functions such as postage, mail logging, overnight express and other related mail items. This includes such items as advising on postage or mail options and costing as well as the advisability of using various mail forms. Position also strives to meet internal customer needs by the prompt attention to mail problems and advises internal customers of any upcoming or special delivery items they should be made aware of (i.e., no Saturday delivery for Federal Express).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to become familiar with department, and individual dept. mail pick-up and delivery needs.
  • Must be able to organize mail for proper delivery and pick-up.
  • Incumbents must be able to lift boxes of up to 40lbs, will be working in "mail room" conditions which may include some dust, shredded paper and similar items normally associated with mailroom operations.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Incumbent should be able to work under pressure situations, such as "rush" jobs, and to sensitive to the needs of the internal MTA customers as far as mall pick-up and delivery.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent.

As an employee of MTA Headquarters, you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the State of New York, if your position earns more than $105,472 (this figure is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
