Company Description
KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) is a national network of free, open enrollment, college preparatory schools dedicated to preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. There are 280 KIPP schools in 21 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 175,000 scholars and alumni. KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including five primary schools, five middle schools and one high school, as well as KIPP Forward which supports students on their journey “to and through” college. KIPP MAC provides strategic, financial and operational support and oversight to all KIPP Metro Atlanta schools and drives initiatives designed to strengthen the schools’ academic programming and outcomes.

The Chief Impact Officer will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will oversee partnerships, advocacy, community engagement, marketing, communications, and development. The Chief Impact Officer will have a critical voice in continuing to build the KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools brand and impact in the region, provide clear, actionable thought leadership around our external relations and advancement strategies, and oversee the successful implementation of these disparate pieces.
As KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools expands, the Chief Impact Officer will be a key leader within the regional leadership team in executing on the current strategic plan and established goals. In partnership with the Chief Executive Officer and alongside an engaged and active board, they will drive the overall external relations strategy for KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools. They will play a critical role in amplifying and guiding the overall branding and messaging for the organization, and will proactively build strong relationships with the community, elected officials, media outlets, and peer organizations. This leader will have the capability to successfully navigate Atlanta’s political and cultural nuances and will have a sophisticated ability to plan proactively for long-term success.
As the Chief Impact Officer, your responsibilities include:
Regional Leadership and Management
  • Hold high standards for project management while empowering others to proactively and creatively problem-solve, and model versatility and collaboration for the organization
  • Serve as the key liaison to KIPP Foundation for external affairs needs
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Manage direct reports who are responsible for community engagement, advocacy, communications, marketing, and fundraising; providing leadership for the vision, goals and strategy for key organizational priorities and areas of focus, establishing clear expectations, promoting rigorous use of data and fostering a culture of accountability
  • Thoughtfully considers the impact of decisions and facilitates resolutions that protect the organization’s interests and prioritizes student needs when conflict or disagreements arise
  • With great empathy, is a consistent champion and proud member of their team. Encourages participation from all members of the team in ways that feel most comfortable to their team and seeks feedback and ideas from team members at all levels in operating as a leader
  • Serve as a member of the Regional Leadership Team
  • Recruits, mentors and supports a diverse and exceptional team of professionals. Diligently seeks opportunities for professional development, acting as a coach and sounding board, and serves as an organizational role model in cultivating a culture of high expectations and support
Community Engagement and Advocacy
  • Lead and enthusiastically build relationships with Atlanta’s major stakeholders and constituencies, including the media, community groups, elected officials, community leaders and other influencers
  • Create and oversee strategy, programs and services aimed towards increased parent and community engagement; and strengthen the partnership among parents, community and schools to improve student academic achievement and school success
  • Proactively engage with current and potential KIPP Metro Atlanta families and communities, as critical advocates and ambassadors for KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools
  • Lead the Advocacy Committee
  • Oversee corporate engagement strategy and partnerships with youth-serving organizations to support career readiness initiatives, after-school programming, enrichment opportunities, and strong community ties
  • Represent KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools community and the broader organization as an ambassador, advocate, and partner within public forums and events
  • Identify and anticipate internal organizational needs and mobilize third-party partners to even more effectively support our students
  • Ensure the success of our long-term partnerships strategy to benefit our students, schools, and alumni
  • Expand KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools voice, influence and impact on key issues facing the communities we serve
  • Identify opportunities and develop ways to strategically maximize collaboration and coordination with external partners
  • Oversee the Advocacy and Community Partnerships team; driving all elements of the work to envision, create, build, implement, and execute KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools efforts to extend impact beyond the walls of its schools
Marketing and Communications
  • Responsible for ensuring meticulous and cohesive messaging, talking points, and strategy for all organizational communications, striving to build a stronger KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools brand and ensure its seamless integration throughout the organization
  • Provide guidance for tracking, metrics and data integrity to ensure alignment and effectiveness of overall marketing and communications efforts alongside overall KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools goals and offers insight and strategy regarding overall effectiveness
  • Provide thought leadership and guidance to the CEO in cultivating a meaningful and productive media and external engagement strategy; assess and strategize responses to all incoming media requests and communicate with relevant media as a spokesperson when appropriate
  • Manage the communications and marketing team in the development and execution of the overall marketing and communications plan for KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools, in support of organizational goals to build awareness, engagement and support
Fundraising/Development
  • Establishes vision for KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools engagement with donors, community members, families and other stakeholders, and leads KIPP Metro Atlanta in representing the organization’s mission to the broader community
  • Oversees the Development team responsible for stewarding current donors and foundation and corporate relations, identifying and cultivating new prospects, planning and executing fundraising events, producing grant applications and reports, prospect reports and tracking and reporting on fundraising measures
  • Lead the Development Committee Lead engagement of the members of the Board’s external efforts, including giving, convening, and outreach to potential community and family advocates, champions and future trustees
  • Leads fundraising strategy to meet annual revenue goals, fulfill growth and capital needs, and build long-term financial sustainability for the organization
  • Stewards the board of directors and philanthropic investors to secure substantial, long-term financial commitments
Qualifications
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity
  • Ability to motivate, excite, and educate both internal and external resources to support our work in helping our KIPPsters persist to and through college
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple high-profile and complex projects simultaneously
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience with 5 years of supervisory and management experience, preferably in a large, dynamic, mission-driven organization
  • Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work
  • Experience in fundraising or communications, marketing, and public relations, preferably in a non-profit environment with an annual budget exceeding $50 million.
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Collaborative team player, comfortable leading as well as executing projects as required
  • Excellent leadership, management, and organizational skills required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative
  • Flexible and able to multi-task within an ambiguous, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making, think strategically, work collaboratively, and gather and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports
Additional Information
Compensation:
The annual salary range is $145,000 - $165,000.
