Position Title: Chief Financial Officer

Boys & Girls of New Rochelle Organization
Founded in 1929, the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle (BGCNR) has served thousands of youth and has been an integral part of the New Rochelle community, offering local youth safe and achieve-driven programming, focused on the whole child, encompassing academics, mental wellness, fitness, leadership, and civics.
Today, we serve over 7,000 youth each year, at two clubhouses and 15 school-sites, offering a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, and hope and opportunity.
We offer after-school, before-school, elective, lunchtime, and summer programming designed to maximize positive impact and drive successful outcomes.
It is an exciting time to be at the BGCNR as we continue to expand school-sites in New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Ossining, introduce and expand innovative programs and activities, grow high need areas (health and mental wellness, STEAM/STEM, workforce development) and we have a new state-of-the-art Remington Clubhouse opening in September 2023.
General Position
The Chief Financial Officer is a hands on leader responsible for managing all financial functions including: accounting, payroll, financial operations, human resources, property management, employee benefits, insurance coverage, legal requirements and donor records.
Key Position Responsibilities
- Assist with budget development for grant proposals, maintain financial records to ensure integrity of tracking grant expenditures, process grant claim reimbursements.
- Train branch staff in proper procedures regarding cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and budgeting as needed or requested.
- Lead and assist budget preparation and management.
- Seek and secure financial support and resources by researching and securing funds from government and other entities.
- Executes other administrative functions or projects as requested by the Chief Executive Officer.
- Manage outsourced bookkeepers and external systems for program registration, payroll and HRIS.
- Oversee design and updates to financial systems as well as implement new software.
- Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors to develop annual income and expense budget. Provide timely and complete reporting of financial results and recommendations for necessary actions to maintain the fiscal health of the club.
- Preparation and analysis of monthly financial reports (income and balance sheet accounts) and projections for CEO and Board Finance committee.
- Process weekly & bi-weekly payroll; ensure accuracy of staff headcount, train directors to monitor and approve staff timecards, process annual pension contributions, prepare annual required reporting., maintain payroll, HR, pension, and benefits records.
- Lead organizational planning and development of operating and fund account budgets, and control expenditures against budget.
- Work closely with Directors to monitor and to keep in check all Clubhouse expenses and manage the preparation and analysis of financial reports on a monthly and as needed basis.
- Work closely with Directors to maintain, analyze and interpret general ledger for all funds.
- Be the Staff Liaison to the Board Finance Committee.
- Oversee business insurance; procurement, monitoring and management.
- Implement all finance, payroll, and human resources regulatory guidance.
- Ensure a productive work environment within the finance and accounting function.
- Seek and secure financial support and resources by managing all assets and investments of the organization, including real property, equities, bonds, and other assets.
- Oversee and lead the process for identifying and evaluating opportunities for improved financial operations, record keeping and reporting, working with external auditors to prepare and review audit schedules and annual report of audit findings.
- Establish and implement policies and procedures for all financial management functions, ensuring appropriate controls and compliance with generally accepted accounting practices.
- Manage and Administer Systems including Accounting, HR, Payroll, Pension and Registration, to ensure data integrity and security.
- Ensure the maintenance of financial records and recordkeeping to ensure compliance with all regulations, generally accepted accounting practices and contractual requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with financial management of state and federal funding and private foundation grants, including budgeting and reporting.
- Minimum of 5-10 plus years’ experience of progressively responsible work experience managing the accounting functions in a non-profit agency or equivalent experience.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with multiple accounting software preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices, processes, and procedures of non-profit organizations.
- Excellent ability to follow up and follow through on all responsibilities, initiatives, and projects.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent ability to meet all deadlines, both required and self-imposed.
- Experience in working with non-profit governance systems and reporting to a Chief Executive Officer and/or Executive Director and a Board of Directors.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business Administration. MBA preferred.
- Ability to interact professionally with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, and other related agencies.
