POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial & Administrative Officer (CFAO) is a newly created leadership role for EO, designed to play a critical role in transforming and modernizing the department for the organization’s next phase of growth. As a core member of the executive leadership team, we are seeking a CFAO who will provide thought leadership and strategic partnership to our executive leadership team, our staff, and our members. It will be especially important that this individual is able to build highly effective relationships with the Global Board of Directors, the Standing Finance Committee and other key member leaders. The CFAO will need to transform EO’s finance function into a high functioning, strategic department that helps drive the organization to accomplish its strategic goals.
The CFAO will play a vital and strategic role in ensuring that EO’s financial, administrative and operational functions are in line with our mission and core values. We are looking for a leader who can promote best practices in non-profit management and transform the way our teams operate. The CFAO will uphold EO values as they work across all departments to create new processes and procedures, operating with the highest levels of integrity and collaboration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to develop and implement financial policies that support the organization’sl direction.
- Partner with the CEO to ensure resources are effectively allocated according to organizational priorities.
- Provide thought leadership on financial implications and risks related to key decisions and issues.
- Oversee the strategic and operational leadership and accountability for the global Member Services Centre (MSC).
- Manage global budgeting and financial planning functions with the executive team, Board, and the Standing Finance Committee.
- Manage a team of finance, accounting, and member processing staff, building out or streamlining the team as needed.
- Lead the partnership with the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) in collaboration with the Global Board and member leaders.
- Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes that are in place to ensure timely incorporation of financial information into decision-making and efficient use of resources.
Financial Management
- Oversee all operational components of EO’s annual renewal project and new member processing.
- Assess and implement financial and internal controls and processes.
- Identify areas for the organization to implement cost saving measures across over short and long-term horizons.
- Oversee the organization’s financial performance and lead reporting activities, cash flow projections, balance sheets, and income statements.
- Oversee the organization’s payroll function, partnering with the People & Culture team to ensure compliance in global practices.
- Implement investment policies and assess risk.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, year-end reporting and financial statements and the external audit.
Contract Management, Governance & Legal
- Oversee contract management function related to employment and vendors, ensuring effective negotiation and accountability.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Provide support for non-profit governance where necessary, such as updating or revising relevant policies and corporate documents and advising on good corporate governance.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of governance, risk, and compliance policies and procedures for members, volunteer member leaders, and staff organization-wide.
- Manage the organization’s businesss insurances and along with other leadership team members regularly assess areas of risk for the organization.
- Oversee and manage the provision of all legal services to the association to ensure maximum protection of its legal rights and to maintain its operations within limits prescribed by law.
- Support compliance with the laws and regulations in all countries where EO has operations by collaborating with local teams and counsel, including establishing and managing relations with local counsel in these countries.
- Oversee and participate in investigations related to EO’s finances as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Nonprofit association industry experience preferred.
- Must possess outstanding analytical skills and a high degree of intellectual curiosity.
- Minimum 15 years’ experience working in an accounting or finance department, preferably within a nonprofit association.
- Promote cultural competency and global awareness.
- Proven global work experience as the Chief Financial Officer or VP of Finance.
- Solution-oriented in various facets of finance and accounting, business audits, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Ability to travel internationally 4-6 times each year.
- Excellent leadership, influence, and communication skills, with experience building highly functioning teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field; graduate degree preferred.
- CPA required; MBA preferred.
- Collaborative, cross-functionally adept to work with multiple departments across an organization.
