We have a full-time position available for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in West Des Moines, Iowa. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.


Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)


Job Summary: Responsible for leading, planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the financial department. Leads and creates policy for all accounting functions. As a leader, this position must coach and mentor team members, receive and provide feedback in a constructive way that builds confidence within the team, and address performance issues as needed in a timely manner. The Chief Financial Officer is a member of the leadership team and works with other leaders to provide strategic leadership and operational management to UCS Healthcare.


As part of UCS Healthcare, team members will follow all laws and regulations, including those at the Federal, State, and Local level. They will also adhere to all UCS policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality, HIPAA/ 42CFR part 2, and all CARF requirements. All team members will operate in alignment with UCS Healthcare's core values, work effectively in a team environment, provide or support patient-centered services, and strive to assist UCS Healthcare in delivering the highest level of care.


Essential Functions (95%):
  • Budget development
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Lead and supervise the activities and working objectives of the Accounting Department
  • Managed Service Agreements
  • Prepares report for 1099 preparation
  • Generate and maintain accurate cost reports
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Journal entries to record bi-weekly payroll
  • Responsible for managing general business insurance policies and employee 403B
  • Responsible for hiring and evaluation of Accounting Department personnel. Demanding high performance and results from team. Ensuring team members' work is aligned with mission and strategy. Invest time and resources in training, development, support for, and success of the team; effectively delegate to accomplish goals and to build team members' capability and confidence. Coach and mentor team members; receive and provide feedback in a constructive way that builds confidence within the team; address performance issues as needed in a timely manner.

  • Accounts Payable
  • Grant claim submission
  • Create accurate and timely financial reports for board, stakeholders, and auditors
  • Understand all payment models for all lines of service within the practice
  • Lead Audit preparation for OMB A-133 annual audit and other contract audits
  • Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances
  • Make recommendations and decisions on financial matters which affect the company:
  • Fixed Asset tracking, depreciation schedule, and journal entries
  • Journal entries as part of month-end close process
  • Partner with the Revenue Cycle Director monthly to review billing, collections, and cash flow reports
  • Develops financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; and developing action plans
  • Income and expense allocations to UCS Healthcare programs
  • Reconciliation of credit cards
  • Use various methods to build a pipeline of candidates and attract high-potential employees. Completion and maintenance of required recordkeeping, including but not limited to applicant tracking, onboarding, supervisions, and annual reviews
  • Maximizes return on invested funds by identifying investment opportunities and maintaining relationships with the investment community
  • Confer with board members, organizational leadership, or staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, or resolve problems.


Other Functions (5%):


  • Perform other projects as assigned.
  • Keep abreast of current events and new methodologies affecting financial planning, management of financial risks, recordkeeping, and financial reporting.


Minimum Required Education, Skills & Experience


  • Minimum of four (4) years of post-grad financial Accounting experience.
  • Ability to analyze data, establish goals, execute a plan, implement process improvement and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with organizational budgeting and preparation of financial statements.
  • Ability to perform complex accounting tasks.
  • Ability to work independently, handle confidential work, exercise discretion and own judgment.
  • Bachelors in Accounting from an accredited higher education institution is required.
  • Ability to work with all departments/stakeholders.
  • Experienced in financial and strategic planning.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and analytical skills.


Preferred Education, Skills & Experience


  • Non-profit industry experience, including grant funding fiscal management is a plus.
  • Healthcare industry experience, including revenue cycle management is preferred.
  • Experience in working with NetSuite & iSolved payroll preferred.

Physical Requirements


  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • A valid driver's license is required (an Iowa driver's license is required within 30 days of hire) and liability insurance or an equivalent means of personal transportation and coverage as travel within the state of Iowa may be necessary.
