Job Description

Chief Environmental Scientist (Equity-Based)

We are an innovative start-up in stealth mode based in Massachusetts, with a mission to revolutionize the way people access and utilize environmental data. Our vision is to create a comprehensive platform that aggregates environmental data, developing cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to enhance the value of our platform which we will then license our data to enterprises and analyze/package it for individuals’ preventative healthcare. A Web3 component will add another dimension to the platform. A full description of the vision will be shared once an NDA is signed.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Scientist with a strong reputation in the field to serve the role of Chief Environmental Scientist (CES). This is initially an equity-based position, with the expectation of transitioning to a full-time salaried role upon securing pre-seed funding.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the expert in environmental toxicant data, its measurement and tracking, and the multiple monitoring/measuring/tracking organizations in the US (and, over time, globally). Inform the team about how to understand and interpret data fields in publicly available datasets.
  2. Collaborate with the CEO, CTO, Chief Data Scientist, and their teams to create a massive longitudinal database that integrates and aligns environmental data spatially and temporally from highly disaggregated and disparate sources, co-creating a powerful algorithm (which we will all patent) that enables queries and analyses for B2B and B2C use cases.
  3. Collaborate with the Chief Data Scientist to maintain relationships with the organizations that provide the data. Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, new developments, and new entrants in the field, keeping our startup at the leading edge of toxicant knowledge and monitoring, ensuring our platform remains leading and cutting-edge.
  4. Identify and articulate to the team political challenges and points of resistance among external parties interested in suppressing toxicant data, creating ingenious solutions for working with and/or around the potential resistance.
  5. Engage in public speaking opportunities to proselytize the project and its impact on the world.
  6. Actively participate in fundraising efforts, including pitching to investors.
  7. Recruit, develop, manage, and inspire a small team of environmental science talent (internally and external consultants, as appropriate) when the time is right, as the startup grows.
  8. Ability to communicate continual updatesback to the business, such as KPIs, as well as your short- and long-term goals and vision to gain buy-in from cross functional team members.

Required Qualifications:

  1. At least 10 years of experience in environmental science, with a strong reputation in the field.
  2. An advanced degree in environmental science.
  3. Expert knowledge of environmental toxicant data, their monitoring and measurement, and the landscape of organizations collecting and making data available to the public.
  4. The ability to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences and explain/translate the business value of your expertise and knowledge.
  5. Business and strategic acumen (or willingness to develop these), and knowledge of the politics around the environmental toxicant area.
  6. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with experience managing teams and working cross-functionally. Virtual leadership & engagement skills.
  7. Willingness to travel to MA infrequently.
  8. Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment (or willingness to learn these).
  9. Willingness to work for equity only until pre-seed funding is secured, with the intention of transitioning to a salaried position.
  10. Willing to take leadership style & values inventories as part of the mutual-fit evaluation process.
  11. Receptive to feedback and deeply invested in your own professional & leadership development.

How to Apply:

If you are excited about this opportunity and believe you have the skills and experience to make a significant impact on our start-up and the world, please send your resume and a brief cover letter explaining your interest and relevant experience to [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!
