L3Harris Space Sector is seeking a Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership to the Telemetry and RF Products (T&RF) Division. This role is responsible for leading all technical efforts including Engineering Development, Research and Development and Production Programs in the T&RF Division within the Space Sector (SAS) and the L3Harris Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) segment. The T&RF product offering includes spaceborne satellite RF communications products, spaceborne encryption/decryption equipment, tactical intelligence radios and data links, satellite command and control software solutions, and high-power ground station amplifiers serving commercial, military, and civilian customers worldwide.

This role also requires experience leading in a matrix functional engineering organization, delivering development efforts with proactive project management, and winning new business. This role has ultimate accountability for the successful execution of engineering activities in support of the business during all phases of business efforts. This includes but is not limited to strategy, technical offering, estimating, milestone execution, process adherence and employee retention.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures program staffing demand for engineering is forecasted and updated for a 12 month ahead view and partners with the Functional Leaders to ensure staffing demand is fulfilled
  • Support new business pursuits, own PCRs, IRAD and Capital planning/execution planning/execution
  • Engineering lead for program accomplishments, issues, highlights, weekly status
  • Responsible for program design change approval and ensures technical readiness for design reviews
  • Reviews program risks/opportunities and identifies opportunities for engineering improvements (people, process, and tools)
  • Accountable for engineering execution on programs within the Division (cost, schedule, technical)
  • Execution of Process Improvement, e3 initiatives
  • Owns and develops tactical and operational plans and goals for the engineering team. Recommends and operationalizes strategies that have a direct impact on the mid- to long-term engineering achievements. Work requires a high degree of responsibility for resources, and frequently influences business decisions made by leadership. Recommends and implements new products, processes, policies, standards, or operating plans in support of business strategy.
  • Apply strong technical and customer requirements knowledge in T&RF technology to develop and drive product strategy
  • Responsible for technical issue resolution, ensures true root cause is identified and/or risk is adequately bound.
  • Ensures engineering initiatives are adopted and processes are followed
  • Requires ability to communicate and influence leadership regarding matters of substantial importance to the function or business area. Frequently conducts briefings to senior leaders.
  • Responsible to maintain low staff attrition through employee engagement, transparency, and an ability to continuously adapt to evolving environments.
  • Ensures product qualification baselines are maintained

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a people leadership capacity
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience with senior level management and leadership skills to lead cross-department project teams and manage across the function.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Technical degree and background in communication systems and related experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong relationships within space community, either through DoD or IC community, current or new space companies
  • Ability to attain a TS/SCI Clearance
  • Experience with space product development systems

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $173,000 - $322,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
