Job Description
Summary This Senior-level (SL) position, Chief Data Scientist, is in the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) located in Suitland, MD. The Chief Data Scientist advises the Director, Deputy Director, and Executives on a vision to guide bureau-wide innovations to the BEA economic accounts and leads the development of new statistical products by identifying, documenting, and prioritizing major methodological and product initiatives. Responsibilities In addition to the duties listed in the "Job Summary" section, the Chief Data Scientist's duties include the following: Adopts and updates a comprehensive data science strategy Develops and maintains a data science strategic plan that provides a roadmap for bureau-wide data science innovations in the short, medium, and long term Sets policies and best practices for shared data repositories, metadata structures, and data processing Oversees major development and improvement of techniques and assures expansion and integration of the source data used in the production of the Bureau's economic measures and related analyses Briefs the Secretary, the Deputy Secretary, the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs, the department's Chief Economist, and other officials of the DOC, officials of other federal agencies, and public and private groups on subjects associated with innovations in the economic measurement activities of the Bureau Requirements Conditions of Employment Applicants must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Travel Required: Occasional Travel Description: Travel required to attend or present at meetings and conferences on topics relevant to the BEA's mission. Qualifications To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must possess all of the Professional/Technical Qualifications. These qualifications would typically be acquired through education, experience, and training which reflect progressive development and achievement in leading teams and/or projects for a comprehensive business program in a complex organization. An individual's total experience and education must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Education Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
