Experience and Education
Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Admission to a CHEA accredited graduate program in ministry or related field. Master’s degree in Ministry preferred. Three (3) year healthcare chaplaincy preferred.
Job Duties
1. Assessment of patient needs for spiritual support and provide necessary services and interventions. Pastoral care and support in crisis, grief, new diagnosis, surgery, or other concerns.
2. Immediate response for emergencies, traumas, deaths, code blues, end-of-life decisions, ethical conflicts, crisis, disasters, organ/tissue donation/procurement.
3. Serves as a resource and advocate related to spiritual and ethical concerns and provides guidance in ethical decision making. Assistance with family conflicts and interpersonal relationships.
4. Provide spiritual support resources appropriate to the developmental, emotional, and psychological needs of patients, family members and staff. Accommodates requests for spiritual/religious literature.
5. Provide pre-surgery, surgery, post-surgery support to patients and family members.
6. Maintain professional certification through continuing education, supervision, spiritual direction, retreats and active membership in APC or NACC. Maintain ecclesial/denominational endorsement.
7. Maintain timely and accurate preparation of progress reports, statistical data and projects which support department and hospital goals.
8. Assist in training of volunteer chaplains and field education students. Participate in the supervision of volunteer and field education students.
9. Provide for Sacramental needs of patients, family members and staff. Facilitate contacting patient's own clergy. Provide worship opportunities for patients, family members and staff.
10. Make referrals to outside resources for additional support and counseling in collaboration with Social Workers, nurses and other members of the health team. Consultation service to staff on specific patient needs.
11. Consultation for Advance Directives: Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care, Directive to Physicians, Family or Surrogates. Consultation concerning Uniform Donor Card matters.
12. Education to staff on utilization of Chaplains, ethics issues, advance directives and other topics as need arises. Provide community education as requested. Network with area religious congregations.
**Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Basic computer and office skills and use of paging system. English language proficiency.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Minimal physical effort and occasional reaching. Frequent mobility over distance. Irregular hours.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of the Vice President for Human Resources, or his/her designee.
