Job Description

The Chaplain of Well-Being is responsible primarily for the delivery of spiritual care to employees of Cook Children’s Medical Center. The Chaplain will exercise the responsibility of addressing the religious, spiritual, and emotional needs of employees throughout the network of Cook Children’s Health Care System. The Chaplain will report to the Director of Spiritual Care.


Education & Experience:

  • Creativity useful for the innovation and implementation of new programs for spiritual care.
  • Collaborative with an interdisciplinary team for community well-being.
  • Proficiency to facilitate theological and spiritual reflection for meaning making.
  • Interpersonal skills vital to connect with persons, especially in crisis.
  • Empathy to identify with the challenges faced by various persons in a pediatric environment.
  • Ethical insight and practice congruent with spiritual care practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an interfaith, multicultural environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills to leverage authority in directing others toward integration and resilience.
  • Analytical awareness to assess spiritual needs and prioritize steps toward problem solving.
  • Intellectual curiosity to discover and incorporate research into spiritual care practice.
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with major coursework in theology, counseling, and/or other subjects appropriate to pastoral care or the completion of an educational track as appropriate to one’s faith tradition.
  • High School or Equivalent Required
  • Cultural humility to thrive in diversity.
  • At least one year of chaplaincy experience preferred.
  • Ordination or endorsement as appropriate to the candidate’s faith group. Skills and Attributes Required
  • Courage in advocacy for the safety and wholeness of persons.
  • Four units of CPE (Level 1 and Level 2) or equivalent in clinical training or pastoral leadership experience.
  • Competency in trauma informed care and leading debriefings for staff.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

  • Ordination and/or Endorsement, as appropriate to candidate's faith group.
