What to Expect
Disclaimer: This position is expected to start around August 2023 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December) or into Spring 2024 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time, for most internships. Please consider before submitting an application.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time depending on their academic standing.

About The Team

Tesla Cell Materials Engineering is seeking an energetic and highly motivated intern to join our team. You will work alongside the cell materials team that is designing, developing, and qualifying materials in Li-ion cells.
What You’ll Do
  • Interface with cell manufacturing and design engineering regarding implementation of new materials and processes.
  • Collect, report, and analyze the data from tests and DOEs.
  • Develop and execute test methods for characterizing mechanical, electrical, electrochemical, and other properties of materials.
  • Derisk and qualify materials and formulations for introduction.
  • Prototype parts to inform future design decisions.
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in materials science, polymer engineering, chemical engineering / chemistry, physics, or any discipline that requires hands-on engineering of materials.
  • Prefer background in Li-ion electrochemical electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and testing.
  • Prior experience with roll-to-roll converting systems and powder processing is a plus
  • Prefer experience with mechanical test equipment or experience with using and learning physical characterization tools.
  • Prefer experience with electrochemical data analysis from typical equipment such as Arbin, Biologic, Neware.
  • Experience in an engineering lab/R&D environment, and/or wet chemistry lab.
