Role Summary
In this role you will be responsible but not limited to; specialized in handling of goods or services for multiple categories within the local market in coordination with the central Category Managers.
You will be also responsible for planning and sourcing the area to manage the product category or range determining the pricing and overall promotion of that product or service. In addition, you need to analyzing sales data, meeting with suppliers/retailers, and reviewing planograms. It is requiring full knowledge in the categories being handled to increase the sales and profitability of a business to drive sustainable growth
Job Responsibilities
- Creating a loyal and transparent culture in the category department for a better sustainability.
- Adjusting strategies and materials to improve sales with new target markets.
- Create different strategic and tools to improve the categories’ performance and manage the existing catalogue of non-performing products.
- Working together with the marketing team to determine pricing models and any form of promotional activity that will enhance sales.
- Working together to understand product trends, identifying new sales opportunities, analyzing competitor products, and identifying ways to increase sales and revenue.
- Ensuring that local presentation for all categories is aligned to the central plan.
- Collaborate with buyers and merchandisers to expand product categories.
- Coordinating with the central Category Managers to complete the range assortment within the local market.
- Developing exit strategies for unsuccessful products.
- Filling all gaps within categories locally.
- Producing, adapting, and advising on display and current marketing materials as needed.
- Ensuring company product categories along with displays are optimized for sales and marketing.
- Study trends from historical data around brand/category sales and market research to assist appropriate placement orders to ensure product availability that meets consumer demands.
- Meeting frequently with marketing team and ensures optimum utilization of customer research information to guide brand/category management decisions, including decisions on the introduction of new products, product assortment, promotional activities and determining of pricing of products which shall enhance sales.
- Assuming responsibility of budget development and revenue for the categories.
- Carrying out procurement (placing of the order, making necessary payments and documentation of purchases) of new products for the category and always take stock of inventory to know when it is time to place orders for new products
- Providing training to the team about successful buying and merchandising online.
- Drafting reports for the company to enhance sales and relay information about new products and changes (as the case may be) to important teams within the company.
- Leading and motivating the team in delegate tasks, and support them to plan and schedule activities, influence others and share constructive feedback.
- Fostering trust relationships with vendors to achieve better pricing and quality of services.
- Making forecasts for product demand to ensure the sustainability of inventory.
- Placing appropriate orders to ensure product availability that meets consumer demands.
- Managing and guiding the team members to elevate the individual efficiencies to achieve the set goals.
Requirements and Needed Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of marketing and sales operations and processes
- An excellent grasp of spatial, design, and promotional planning.
- Competitive attitude.
- Solid knowledge of category management, marketing, and sales principles.
- 4-7 years of buying or category management experience
- A BSc degree in business administration, marketing, or related field
- Proven experience as a category manager or similar role
- Solid knowledge of basic computer operations.
- An analytical mind with a strategic ability.
- Hands-on experience with analyzing big data and making forecasts
- Being creative.
- Excellent communication & negotiation Skills.
- Ability to think from a consumer perspective and understand buying behavior.
