The Corporate Category Manager will be tasked to achieve sales and earned income (revenue) objectives and related marketing activities in a specific category (Grocery, Fresh, Frozen). The Category Manager will effectively manage bracket pricing and earned income programs on products ensuring competitive invoice delivered cost to the Operating Companies (OpCo's, our distribution centers). Duties include the negotiation of new and enhanced supplier programs and increase participation with strategic suppliers with the conversion of nonstrategic vendor purchases. The Category Manager manages communication flow to OpCos (distribution centers) as it relates to market conditions and inventory positions. The Category Manager will interact with Marketing on current and future brand and item development. They will support, train and educate the field in the category of expertise through acting as OpCo liaison, interactive training, trade shows, and other industry activities. The Category Manager resolves issues related to vendor partners. They manage rebate tracking programs and resolve issues pertaining to collection of rebates and other incentives from suppliers and payments to OpCos. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Develop and promote Vistar brands within managed categories and conduct ongoing evaluation of the products through comparison to competitive products and suppliers through data and product cuttings and comparisons and evaluation of supplier product specifications and food safety programs.
  • Communicate with the Operating Companies to assist with any local issues/opportunities. Communicate market status/trends, purchase recommendations and key supplier performance updates. Conducted from both the corporate office and through OpCo Liaison visits.
  • Perform key category reviews. analyze sales, earned income (revenue), industry trends, etc., for brand extensions and/or Request For Proposals (RFPs).
  • Negotiate new and enhanced supplier programs to solicit participation in key marketing strategies / events - to include maintaining all documents, forms and related Vendor information.
  • Perform vendor meetings - review sales, earned income trends, OpCo issues. Develop an action plan to address those issues as needed.
  • Support other strategic departments and company goals and functions with procurement related information, functions and activities.
  • Assist with merchandising conference planning activities, attend, participate, and present at various events such as NACS, IFDA, NAMA, Candy/Snacks, and other industry events and conferences.

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience
3 - 5 years category management within foodservice industry
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors in business, marketing or related area
5 -7 years category management within foodservice industry
