Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Carpenter is responsible to complete the skilled carpentry work according to project plans and supervisory instruction. Under general supervision, perform master-level work in the design, construction, repair and maintenance of structures and related physical facilities and perform related work as required. The Carpenter is responsible for the full range of rough skilled carpentry work, using, or working from one or more blueprints, as-built, specifications, drawings, or instructions to design, build, retrofit, maintain, and construct various types of facilities and structures. This position must inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations with supervisor. This is a temporary position, with an anticipated duration of approximately two (2) seasons starting from April – October 2023 & 2024 depending on project needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in inspections, testing and reviewing of specifications for general carpentry project specification requirements.
  • Review daily task assignments and clarify any material needs with supervisor.
  • Clean, maintain, adjust, calibrate, and service small tools/equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and participate in safety meetings.
  • Maintain a neat workspace and organize tools, materials, and supplies throughout the day to maintain a professional working environment.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to contract requirements (including state and federal Code Requirements) and reports back to supervisor.
  • Act as lead worker to other classified staff and helpers/laborers in the area.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Provide all basic carpentry/structural hand tools, and skilled labor to complete skilled carpentry/structural work according to instructions, project specifications, and plans.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities, but this position may train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area (including helpers and/or laborers).

  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
  • Ability to participate in group meetings, take direction from supervisor(s) and other crew members, high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • All around knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in construction field.
  • Experience with reading plans and understanding tasks at hand.
  • Knowledge of civil underground, structural bridge elements, pile driving operations, concrete formwork systems, and structural steel erection.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.
  • Works well in group problem solving situations.
  • Work requires professional verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four years master-level experience working as a carpenter in heavy highway or structural operations, commercial, industrial, or military construction operations setting, including rough Carpentry.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screening.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must provide own basic carpentry/structural hand tools.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Brice Civil Constructors has a fast-paced multi-tasking office environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. At times, work is performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites. Adaptability regarding schedule and design changes, and occasional overtime for immediate field support or bid processing may be necessary.
