Job Description
A family of five is seeking a Caretaker/Housekeeper/Houseman for their secondary property in Pawling, NY. The property consists of a 5K SF primary residence, a small guest cottage, and a few small structures housing a gym, office, and playroom. The culture of the home is informal, however, the expectations for quality service and efficiency are high. The family uses this home on occasional weekends during the year and for the months of July and August.

Live in optional. The family is offering housing. There is a two-bedroom, one-bath barn apartment on the premises. The home is a private, stand-alone barn apartment with a separate driveway, all new appliances, and simple furnishings.

This is a full-time position with days off corresponding to when the family is not using the premises.

Overview:

This position will be responsible for the heavy cleaning and laundry duties inside the home as well as general overseeing and maintenance on the property. Will manage the repair and maintenance of HVAC, appliances, generators, vehicles, and pool equipment. Should be able to oversee repairs and maintenance, as well as manage outside contractors when needed.

Duties:
  • Will act as the main housekeeper/houseman for all buildings on the property. With normal housekeeping expectations.
  • Assist with laundry including washing, ironing, packing/unpacking for travel, seasonal wardrobe management, and managing dry cleaning.
  • Ensure all cabinets, drawers, closets, and linen/towel storage in all rooms of the house are properly organized and maintained.
  • Oversees maintenance, and care of the property including grounds and all structures, including primary residence, guest cottage, outbuildings, and pool.
  • Knowledgeable about cleaning various surfaces using various cleaning and sanitation products, techniques, and methods.
  • Maintain all cleaning equipment, supplies, and products and household inventory
This includes overseeing others as well as ‘hands-on’ execution.
  • Check on house and grounds as required (including weekends when owners are not here).
  • Produces and manages maintenance schedule for all building and equipment and ensure schedules are adhered to.
  • Oversee deliveries
  • Manage Vendor and repairs, overseeing work of other parties when required (e.g. electrician, plumber, HVAC, carpentry, gardening help, etc.)
  • Ensure all flowers and plants are watered daily/weekly as required while coordinating replacement and flowers/plants as needed
  • Perform other property/household-related tasks as needed, including running errands, purchasing supplies, party set up/clean up, etc
  • Report repairs and replacements needed, when encountered
  • Maintain the utmost decorum, professionalism, and discretion.
