Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Career Center is part of the Division of Student Affairs with strong and broad-reaching relationships and responsibilities throughout campus, including the academic colleges. Divided into three units (Career Education; Employer Relations; and Operations), the Career Center not only provides career-related-advising and -services to students, it fills many additional functions critical to the success of the university and students, including, but not limited to, campus-wide career fair coordination and job/internship postings, employer relations, institutional career outcome reporting, and student employee development leadership. The Career Center is responsible to a variety of internal and external stakeholders and leverages those relationships to help students investigate the many available professional opportunities with special consideration for finding paths that meet their skills, goals, values, and unique identities. The College of Liberal Arts ( CLA ) shares a commitment to the well-being of the human community, the natural environment in which we live, and to the inspiration of the human spirit. CLA directs a 21st century liberal arts education at a land-grant institution through learning, scholarship, and engagement. Position Summary
The Career Education Coordinator ( CEC ) is a half-time, year-round position shared by the Career Center and academic college that supports the Career Education Manager in delivering career education across a designated college. This position will serve students through in-person and virtual formats. The CEC will advise students in one-on-one advising appointments and drop-in services to develop and present career education topics to undergraduate and graduate classes, and develop and execute specialized career education initiatives for students with diverse identities and backgrounds (including international students, low-income students, students of color, students with disabilities, adult learners and veterans, student athletes, and students with other marginalized identities).
This half-time position is 20 hours per week and includes prorated, half-time benefits. This is a permanent, 12-month role. Hours may vary during a few select weeks. This person will not work on university observed holidays. This is an in-person position with some remote workdays possible. There will be no relocation assistance for this position.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Direct experience working in student success initiatives (minimum one year of full-time experience, or two years of part-time experience)

  • Experience and comfort working with a wide variety of technology platforms

  • Direct experience in a higher education career services environment (experience as a graduate student is acceptable)

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of diverse student needs and how diverse identities impact career development
  • Serve students by providing one-on-one career advising in appointment-based and drop-in formats on topics including but not limited to career and major exploration, job and internship search skills (networking, resume, cover letter, interviewing, job offer negotiation), and the graduate school application process
  • Attend weekly all-staff Career Center meetings
  • Regularly review gaps in student resources, particularly related to students with marginalized identities; work to address gaps by creating or vetting new resources
  • Maintain solid working knowledge of employer and industry trends through collaborative work with the Career Center’s Employer Connections Team
  • Partner with the Career Education Manager to design and lead innovative career programming, workshops, and events for students by applying knowledge of student interest areas, diverse identities, and exploring student needs related to career education
  • Attend workshops, conferences, seminars, or other opportunities that enhance knowledge of career services and/or careers in the college related industries
  • Create and deliver classroom presentations on career education-related content, integrating the Career Center’s social justice approach to career education
  • Evaluate web-based information and make recommendations on career-related resources of value
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of CSU campus resources in order to best meet complex student needs
  • Provide career advising and event support for Career Center events and initiatives
  • Create and deliver specialized career education presentations for both undergraduate and graduate students

  • Facilitate engaging small and large group presentations and workshops for a range of identities, confidence levels, class years, and majors.
  • Support in the development and delivery of a CLA career education communication plan with a strategic focus on outreach to historically underserved student populations.
  • Attend meetings with CLA Academic Success Coordinators, student organizations, and college partners as needed.
  • Serve CLA students by providing identity-centered, resourceful, and empowering one-on-one career advising on a wide range of needs and industry interests, on topics such as:
  • Assist in marketing and promotion of career education through social media, newsletters, and CLA department channels.
  • Help plan and execute one to two events focused on career exploration, networking, and/or storytelling, with a focus on student success and retention.
  • Support tracking and management for faculty lesson plan and curriculum toolkit requests.
