Responsible for overseeing personnel, budget and all activities of the cancer registry including the identification of cancer cases for data collection, follow-up, quality reviews and ensuring that the accreditation standards are met and maintained for the cancer program. Maintains the efficient operation of the Cancer Registry under the guidelines of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS).


FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:


Essential


  • Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
  • Maintains quality control of the cancer registry program.
  • Coordinates the cancer registry accreditation survey process.
  • Assists the director in evaluating the registry staff.
  • Oversees cancer case finding, abstraction, staging and follow-up processes to ensure accuracy and integrity set forth by ACoS.
  • Coordinates all tumor conferences.
  • Designs and produces reports to analyze performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for developing/maintaining policies and procedures for time management, supply management, productivity and accuracy of practice.
  • Coordinates, organizes information and compiles related reports for the Cancer Committee.
  • Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with the American College of Surgeons standards for accreditation of the cancer program.
  • Responds to the following Shore Health Systems codes: Code Red (in the immediate area), Code Pink (if called), Code D (if called).
  • Coordinates, promotes and participates in community cancer education and outreach.
  • Strives to achieve excellence of services as described in the CARE Manual.


Qualifications


MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:


  • Ability to work with physicians and other facility personnel in coordinating registry activities.
  • Demonstrate PC and software proficiency.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor degree or currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Certification by the National Cancer Registrar’s Association with a minimum of five (5) years of cancer registry experience. Maintain national registry requirements that have been stated by the ACoS.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding, SEER, AJCC staging schemes, anatomy and physiology, cancer disease process and treatment trends.
