Job Description
JOB TITLE: Buyer
LOCATION: Fort Lauderdale, FL
TYPE: On-site
SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday and as needed
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Permanent
PAY RATE: $85K – 100K per year depending on experience + BENEFITS
ABOUT THE COMPANY:
This is a company that specializes in providing transportation solutions for the energy and chemical industries along the coastal areas of the United States. Its primary focus is to help ships safely dock at ports located in the U.S.
Through our vessel management services, we offer owners trustworthy and secure solutions, ensuring the safety and reliability of their vessels.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Reports to: Purchasing Manager
This person will be responsible for the daily purchasing and expediting activities for the division. Activities include daily communication with suppliers, vessels, and shoreside management team to ensure effective implementation of company purchasing processes, procedures, and systems. Duties also include the application of best purchasing practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Assist colleagues with daily responsibilities in the event of vacation, sick days, business trips, etc. to ensure uninterrupted service to vessels.
  • Responsible for updating the company's purchasing system with any changes in status or other information on suppliers/products.
  • Responsible for follow-up of all issued purchase orders to ensure appropriate delivery dates/times/locations. Delivery schedule for material to the vessels must be continually monitored and adjusted as needed depending on the vessel’s schedule. The buyer is responsible for coordinating the delivery of all purchased materials.
  • Responsible for purchasing a wide range of materials for assigned tank vessels, including machinery spares, steward supplies, tools, and deck consumables. Duties include researching/sourcing products, processing requisitions/requests for quotations, and evaluating/selecting vendors.
  • Duties also include preparation and follow-up of purchase orders to ensure correct coding and approvals.
  • Responsible for assisting clerical staff with reconciling discrepancies with purchase orders and invoices.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as directed by the Manager, Tanker Purchasing.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Skills /Software: NS5
  • Experience: Three years of experience with purchasing responsibilities required - Purchasing experience in the maritime industry preferred
  • Education: Associate degree

SKILLS:
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Team-oriented, and proactive
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Fluent in English written and spoken.
