POSITION SUMMARY
UC Online has an opening for a Business Analyst who is an experienced, advanced professional with a full understanding of industry-wide business process and analysis practices and organizational policies and procedures. The Business Analyst works at the highest technical level of various phases of systems analysis from project ideation through business needs analysis, technical design and scope, and all related project phases. The BA considers the business implications of applying technology to the current and future business environment, creates and maintains UC Online's business processes, project status, business requirements documents (BRDs) and templates, and user stories for delivery to UC Online technical and other implementation teams with an eye toward process stability and continuous improvement. The BA identifies business process needs for suggested projects in the unit's tracking system and conducts interviews with business sponsors and stakeholders (users) to determine priorities for deliverables based on level of effort (LOE) analysis with team members. The BA manages bi-weekly business meetings to clarify questions and use cases, deliver and discuss drafts of BRDs, user stories and/or visuals in order to move projects forward. The BA interacts with both business and technical teams to resolve a wide range of business process issues of moderate to complex scope by in depth knowledge of UC Online business systems and capabilities. In addition, the BA demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Design and Technology Development, the BA owns the UC Online business systems analysis process.
Responsibilities
40% Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes business and user needs (in the form of Business Requirements, user stories, and visual representations), documenting requirements and revising existing system and process logic issues as necessary. Provides support and training on new applications. May guide and advise less-experienced Business Systems Analysts and/or UC Online business leadership and stakeholders.
20% Applies technical expertise and business analysis concepts to identify, evaluate and define complex systems scope and objectives with an understanding of applicable business practices, processes, systems and industry standards to meet end-user needs within an Agile development context.
20% Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for approval of business process and procedural documentation. Creates, maintains, and improves business process documentation such as process workflows, business requirements templates, user stories templates, wireframe and proof of concept visuals, projects tracker of ideas, projects in process, and completed projects. Recommends and implements changes in processes and procedures. Negotiates with stakeholders on the creation of specifications and ensures that delivered functionality is represented accurately in business documentation.
15% Provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing complex systems and procedures. Creates complex specifications for systems to meet end-user requirements. Involved in developing complex user interface designs. Plans and executes unit integration and acceptance testing. Participates in cross-functional teams to address complex business or systems issues.
5% Attends classes, seminars and conferences that enhance professional expertise and foster managerial competency. Participates in activities that enhance the UC community and support the university mission. Upholds the organization's Principles of Community and assures that those values are upheld throughout the department. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills in the form of user acceptance criteria.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Advanced knowledge of related areas of IT covering application and database functions, website development, UX design. Specific experience with Salesforce platform and applications required.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a collaborative team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of collaborative business processes and procedures with a cross-functional team.
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions with a minimum of 7 years of experience in academic systems or academic product development contexts.
  • Advanced understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations, Business Requirements documentation, wireframes or other visual representations, and narrative description.
  • At least 5 years experience working within a team using Agile / iterative development processes for software application and website design and development.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture. Specific experience with information modeling, workflow applications and swim lanes.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in related area or Bachelor's degree with experience in equivalent area.
  • Master's degree preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California or be willing to relocate.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
