Bus Monitor - Part Time

Position Title: Bus Monitor - Part time
Position Type: Split Shift Part Time / Non-Exempt (20 to 25 Hours)
Work Hours: 6-8:30am and 2:30 to 5pm (may vary slightly) Hourly Wage: $15/Hr
Position Hours: Monday – Friday

Reports to: Transportation Coordinator and/or Transportation Manager
Length of Term/Employment: 190 days / At-will
Position Mission: The position of the Bus Monitor is to help transport students or special clients, persons with disabilities. Ensure adherence to safety rules. May assist passengers in boarding or exiting.

Position Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and reach.
• Capable of learning Safe practices concerning school bus transportation after training.

Job Duties:

• Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
• Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and completing route surveys.
• Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation.
• Assist the driver in ensuring seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps are secured as required.

• Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems, and behavior as appropriate.
• Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
• Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned.
• Assist handicapped children on and off the bus and escort children across the street as needed.
• Maintain regular and timely attendance and perform other duties as assigned.

• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.

• Illustrate understanding of Charter and community needs and begin activities to meet those needs.

• Some stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing required.
• Maintain emotional control under stress and work with frequent interruptions.
• While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to talk and listen.
