JOB TITLE / CLASSIFICATION: Building Inspector 1 / Classification Number 325
CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY: Full-time / Service Employees International Union (SEIU)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Primarily performs plan review and inspections of building construction for conformance with applicable County
Codes, Oregon Specialty Code, and ordinances; Meets with contractors, engineers, architects and the public to
discuss related building code questions and issues; Conducts plan review as needed; Works under the supervision
of the Building Official. Develop and maintain effective, harmonious and reasonable work relationships.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Considerable knowledge of the Oregon Specialty Codes, building construction, materials, and methods; ability to
read and interpret applicable codes, plans and specifications and to reconcile them to construction in progress;
ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with contractors, the general public, and other
county employees; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Graduation from a senior high school and a minimum of one year of experience as an inspector in a jurisdiction
recognized by a model code group, or satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training
which demonstrates ability to perform the work described. Minimum Qualifications: OIC, Residential Plans
Examiner (CAX), Residential Structural Inspector (CAS). Additional Certifications preferred. Plan review
experience preferred. The Department may assist the successful candidate in obtaining additional certifications.
Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license and provide evidence of a good driving record.
COMPENSATION
The salary range is $4,804 to $6,132 per month (DOQ). The work week is 40 hours. Linn County
provides an excellent comprehensive benefit package including health insurance and County paid Public
Employee Retirement System (PERS) contributions.
