Department or School Site Beginning in 1957, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD)
produced televised instructional programming for students, which was
broadcast on various Los Angeles television stations. A decade later, the
District received state and federal grants to build and equip a broadcast
facility, and in 1972 KLCS-TV was launched as the Los Angeles City
Schools station.
Operates a variety of electronic and mechanical equipment including
cameras; audio, video, teleprompters, lighting, editing, and duplicating
systems; recorders; system servers; broadcast automation equipment;
and character generators during studio and remote production of
programs post production, and broadcast operations.
Today, KLCS is a multiple Emmy Award-winning noncommercial PBS
affiliate station, broadcasting to more than 15 million viewers in Los
Angeles and throughout Southern California. Eight million households
per month, and one out of every 10 TV viewers in Southern California,
watch KLCS. You can watch KLCS over the air, on DirecTV, Dish

The Broadcast Systems Operator:
Operates a variety of electronic and mechanical equipment used in the
production, recording, editing, dubbing, and broadcasting of digital
programs.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Expert proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud with an emphasis in
Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
- Experienced using various production tools to assemble video,
graphics, and audio into quality presentations, to include color correction
and audio sweetening for finishing video projects.
- Knowledgeable in file based workflows, content management systems,
transcoders and codecs.
- Knowledgeable in field production to include advanced setup and
operation of modern cameras and on location audio and lighting.
- Experienced Directing/Technical Directing in studio and on-location
productions.
- Experienced in the setup and operation of audio consoles for mixing
live productions.
- Experienced working in a master control environment.
- Ability to keep to accelerated, tight timelines while prioritizing multiple
concurrent deliverables in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to adapt to last minute changes, input from management, and be
able to change a product if needed.
- Ability to devise creative solutions and the savviness to foresee
potential roadblocks.
- Ability to lead a team and the expectations tactfully to elicit results and
actions from others who may vary in levels of experience.
- Ability to train others on production and editing of television
programming.
- Continuous learning to maintain knowledge and skill set in current
technologies.
- Exceptional customer services in a fast-paced environment that may
require reprioritizing of deliverables.

Job Duties/Responsibilities Operates Master Control by performing a combination of the following
duties:
Activate and control the transmitter.
Air programs in a multi-channel schedule.
Record and check the program’s quality from various sources.
Access and solve on-air problems in Master Control and Production
Control.
Assure that the transmissions meet the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) standards.
Assists Broadcast Engineers in installing and removing technical
equipment and wiring.
Assists in setting up and testing analog and digital studio and
transmission equipment.
Operates studio and field cameras for a variety of productions.
Edits raw footage for use in video content production and news stories
for broadcasting online and related media platforms.
Manages and maintains files and assets for a variety of mediums,
including web.
Provides technical expertise and creative insight to staff and Station
clients when coordinating and executing media projects.
Writes and edits for news, promos, public service announcements, and
scripts.
Sets up, lights, paints, maintains, and repairs equipment, and scenery
and props used in television production and broadcasting in-studio and
on location.
Uses multiple source editing systems and makes adjustments to
maintain edit decision lists and proper audio/video levels and placement.
Serves as technical director on productions.
Conducts on-camera interviews.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements *Education: Two (2) years in a recognized college, university, or
technical school with courses in television or film production,
broadcasting, communications, digital media, or computer technology or
a certificate of completion of specialized curriculum in communications
from the armed forces.
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required
education on a year-for-year basis provided that graduation from a high
school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency is met.
An Associates in Arts degree with a major in television or film
production/broadcasting, communications, or digital media is preferable.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience operating video and audio
equipment and editing in a broadcast, cable, production or
post-production facility.
Special: A valid California Driver License. Use of an automobile.
SPECIAL NOTE: Positions in this class may be required to work various
shifts in a 24-hour, 7-day a week broadcast operation.

Training and Experience (T&E) assessment, Technical Project, and
