Job Description

Position Summary:


The successful candidate will be responsible for operating ammonia refrigeration and utilities safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will respond to daily troubleshooting calls from maintenance and utilities team leaders. Will ensure PMs are done within scheduled time for equipment assigned to this individual. The successful candidate will also generate service requests for equipment.

Essential Duties, Functions, and responsibilities:

Provide routine inspections of all temperature logs, ammonia detection alarms and general refrigeration operating systems.


Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of equipment.

Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.


Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.

Observes equipment operation, notifying appropriate personnel of any malfunctions and /or safety issues/concerns.


Maintain inventory control on parts and supplies for refrigeration systems.


Perform regular preventive maintenance on equipment and plant facilities.


Supervise/direct all refrigeration contractor tasks.

Adheres to all USDA and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) product standards and guidelines.

Must be able to work shifts as assigned such as weekends, holidays, and overtime as scheduled.


Perform all other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


This person needs to work with a sense of urgency.


Curious minded with ability to troubleshoot issues.


Ability to communicate effectively and follow verbal and written instructions.


Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.


Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.


Ability to complete daily tasks in a timely manner.


Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States


Need to be familiar in SPC, HACCP, GMP’S, SSOP’S, and USDA


Familiar with ISO process and procedures.


Ability to read electrical and mechanical blueprints.


Must wear approved safety shoes.


Ammonia refrigeration systems experience (desired)


Physical Requirements:


Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling

Stooping, squatting, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting and reaching (up to and including 50lbs or more) may be required in completion of job duties.

Reaching overhead


Reaching below knees


Perform work in a refrigerated warehouse with temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Fahrenheit to 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

Perform work in a non-refrigerated warehouse with temperatures that range from 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 90+ degrees Fahrenheit.

Incumbent may use calculators, computers, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday

Use repetitive motions using upper and lower extremities, mount and dismount equipment on a continual basis.

Will be subject to working on mechanical and stationary working platforms in excess of 40 ft.

Must be willing and able to perform physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions/Department Description:

Work in damp and cold environment as needed.

Work with loud and noisy machinery as needed.

Work in dusty environment when using spice as needed.

Work in congested areas as needed.

Work outside in all types of weather.
