Job Description
Position Summary
Works under the direct supervision of the Executive Chef to perform a variety of transport and custodial functions for the Food Service department.
Adheres to and complies with established Air Force Village, Sodexo, and applicable regulatory agencies policy standard practices and procedures.
Must be able to identify issues of concern and report them to Supervisor as needed for follow-up and to ensure customer satisfaction, as well as customer and employee safety.
General Requirements
Will be expected to assume heavy workloads with a great deal of time spent on their feet.
Some heavy lifting is required, as well as pushing and pulling.
Incumbent must act in a positive and pleasing manner in all customer contact areas.
Must be able to speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English, as well as recognize and respond to job-related signs and symbols.
Ability to prioritize workload effectively and efficiently, utilize time, and work in a systematic way to ensure that appropriate items are cleaned and sanitized in an efficient manner and assure that ample supplies are ready and on-hand for kitchen and service utilization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
Prior food service experience is a plus.
Equipment And Computer Operations
A working knowledge of the various equipment used in a commercial kitchen, to include: dishwasher, slicer, oven, and stove, is desired.
Training will be provided to familiarize incumbent with related equipment to ensure safety and proper operation during use.
Certificates, Licenses, And Registrations
Ongoing education related to food service operations is encouraged.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Cleans equipment and surfaces according to department procedures and schedules, which may include but is not limited to: ovens, stoves, fryers, hoods, steam kettles, mixers, buffalo choppers, walls, vents, ceilings, refrigerators, freezers, grease traps, carts, tables, counters, dish machines, floors, pots, pans, and catering equipment. Routinely scrapes dishes, loads and unloads dishwashing machines; prepares clean and sanitized dishes, utensils and glasses for meal service. Ensures that all items including dishes, utensils, and glassware are clean and sanitary prior to placing them into service. Transports supplies and meals (healthcare and residential) to various areas of the department and facility, to include delivering food carts and collecting trays from patient areas when requested by Supervisor. Assists storeroom workers in unloading deliveries and placing stock in storeroom or refrigerators and freezers. Transports trash and garbage to disposal area, maintaining sanitary conditions in work areas. Sweeps and mops work areas as needed. Logs dishwashing machine temperatures and immediately reports any variances from required operating temperatures to Supervisor. Informs Supervisor immediately of any equipment malfunctions or breaks down or if any safety or sanitation hazards are suspected or exist. Assists in training new employees, as requested by Supervisor. Assists in Health Care Center and Assisted Living areas, as directed by Supervisor. Attends department meetings and in-service programs, as required. Follows department safety and sanitation procedures. Performs other duties assigned by Supervisor.

Within the scope of position duties, responsible for seeing that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures are complied with.
This position may handle confidential information and must treat such with appropriate sensitivity.
Physical And Environmental Demands
Job duties are very rigorous and physical demands are high at times.
Must be able to stand and walk 6 to 7 hours daily, and lift 20 to 50 pounds three to four hours daily.
Push and pull up to 100 pounds for three to four hours daily.
Bending, squatting, and reaching are necessary, as well as mobility for frequent maneuvering in and between work areas.
Exposure to heat, fumes, and odors in food preparation and service areas is likely.
Few environmental hazards are present, although the threat of communicable disease exists.
Mild cleaning products, waxes, and soaps are used in the immediate area.
Mild pesticides are used periodically to control bug infestation.
Work Schedule
Core work hours are varied.
Rotating days and shifts may be required including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Special events or assignments may require working additional hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
WORK LOCATION:
Assigned Village kitchen and dishwashing areas, as well as Health Care Center and Assisted Living facilities, as applicable.
Attire And Dress Code
Uniform required as specified by department.
Village employee ID badge or name tag must be worn at all times while on duty.
Closed-toe, slip-resistant shoes are required.
Use and wear of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), to include gloves and safety goggles, required when using chemicals, or as directed.
Training will be provided to ensure safety and proper wear of PPE during use.
Safety belt provided upon request.
