Description

The Billing Coordinator, Invasive Cardiology reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Billing Coordinator, Invasive Cardiology is responsible for ensuring accurate coding and billing of all interventional cardiology and electrophysiology procedures performed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining and updating procedures, monitoring regularly to ensure compliance with these procedures, assisting with billing inquiries and issues, and maintaining the price file for Invasive Cardiology. Audits documents to ensure accurate coding and billing of all interventional cardiology and electrophysiology procedures. This position will require a thorough understanding of the specific Invasive Cardiology procedures performed, and will use that knowledge in order to seek maximum reimbursement on behalf of the organization through various external and internal programs and payment plans. Additionally, this person will work with the appropriate NM departments, such as coding, billing and managed care, to obtain the most current financial information that supports our patients, providers and staff. This position will also be responsible for providing on-going updates and education to providers and staff regarding financial and coding policies.


Responsibilities:

  • Identifies patterns of billing errors and works collaboratively with department manager and outside entity to improve processes as needed.
  • Performs daily charge reconciliation, export, and monthly auditing of departmental charges.
  • Performs administrative activities and projects.
  • Works with NMH Revenue Cycle and Analytics in regards to any billing discrepancies.
  • May be asked to perform financial screening, making financial arrangements and advise self-pay patients on alternative ways to meet their financial obligation, including but not limited to financial hardship screening and payment plans.
  • Performs activities and responds to patient inquiries related to billing follow-up.
  • Responsible for reviewing and reconciling charges along with charge corrections.
  • Handles billing inquiries received via telephone or via written correspondence.
  • The Billing/Coding Coordinator is also responsible for reviewing demographic, employment and insurance data necessary for payment of radiation therapy treatment and verifies insurance coverage and benefits of our patients.
  • Educates staff concerning compliant and comprehensive charge capture.
  • Requests necessary charge corrections.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum one (1) years’ experience with invasive cardiology coding.
  • Familiarity with facility and physician billing with third party payors
  • Certification from AAPC, CIRCC (Certified Interventional Radiology and Cardiology Coder) and CCC (Certified Cardiology Coder)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Previous Invasive Cardiology related coding experience.
  • American Health Information Management Association
  • Computer skills: Systems utilized include Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), EPIC.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
