Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Clinic Director provides clinical and administrative oversight to the DC clinic and Maryland clinic within Mary’s Center’s Department of Behavioral Health. The Behavioral Health Clinic Director provides clinical leadership for the program and ensures compliance with clinical requirements identified by payors, including the District of Columbia’s Department of Behavioral Health Core Service Agency (CSA), MCOs, and private payors, as well as the Council on Accreditation Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) standards. This includes ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, training recommendations, and other areas that ensure the highest quality of care and clinical interventions. The Behavioral Health Clinic Director is responsible for achieving the budgeted encounter targets and designs methods that monitor the clinical schedules of assigned staff to ensure that the program appointment schedules are full and that service delivery occurs seamlessly. The Behavioral Health Clinic Director will also carry a small caseload.
Reportability
This position will report directly to the Vice President of Behavioral Health. This position will supervise Mental Health Therapists and clinicians at the managerial level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
SUPERVISORY AND PROGRAMMATIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete annual performance evaluations and if needed establish performance improvement plans designed to coach assigned employees to improved performance;
- Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in group supervision and case review meetings;
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Provide oversight to therapists on all aspects of service delivery in DC & MD;
- Maintain statistics and provide reports as requested;
- Ensure staff maintain their CEU requirements for their license level and to enhance their continued professional growth;
- Develop and implement peer review processes & workflows for Quality assurance;
- Ensure appropriate documentation of all supervision meetings and maintain supervisory agreements with all supervisees;
- Ensure staff meet required productivity standards;
- Continually monitor quality service delivery and provide ongoing constructive feedback to supervisees to support professional growth;
- Participate in hiring process; onboard and orient new staff;
- Ensure all clinical documentation is timely and high quality. Review and sign-off on diagnostic assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes;
- Manage grants by working closely with Finance to ensure grant compliance with deliverables, manage documents and deadlines, track results and furnish reports, and support program staff in researching funding opportunities
- Demonstrate cultural competency and support development of cultural competency in staff through appropriate trainings and other activities as needed;
- Contribute to the development of training topics for clinical staff annually, and provide information that supports conducting the trainings throughout the year;
- Provide individual administrative and clinical supervision;
- Participate in organization-wide and division-wide meetings and committees, departmental meetings and other meetings/conferences as assigned;
- Understand and apply state and federal confidentiality regulations with regard to clients’ records and correspondence;
CLINICAL SERVICE PROVISION:
- Accept cultural diversity and integrate the family’s values and culture into services;
- Apply crisis management skills when necessary to stabilize clients;
- Document all contacts, referrals, and other necessary information;
- Maintain monthly statistics and provide reports as needed to Program Director;
- Maintain client records that are accurate, comprehensive, and adhere to documentation policies and billing timelines;
- Meet weekly productivity standards as set by Director;
- Provide psychotherapy to support clients in their insight development and achievement of personal goals identified in treatment planning process;
- Determine DSM-5 diagnosis;
- Engage families and significant others as needed to support treatment goals;
- Complete a diagnostic assessment on all clients referred, gathering information from referral source, client chart and other pertinent sources, including family members and past providers of care;
- Explain therapist’s role, client rights and responsibilities, including confidentiality and mandated reporting;
- Participate in weekly case reviews of clients in peer group supervision;
- Complete treatment plan and prior authorizations for services as required by individual insurance payers;
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience – This position requires a master’s degree in Social Work, and an independent license to practice psychotherapy (LCSW-C, LICSW) in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Must be a board approved supervisor in both Maryland and D.C. or willing to obtain said credentials.
Desired Skills & Abilities –
- Excellent mental health knowledge and clinical skills;
- Management/supervisory experience and experience working in community mental health strongly preferred.
- The ability to support and develop starting therapists;
- A solid understanding of trauma-informed supervision and care practices;
- A strong understanding of the structural determinants of health; motivation and knowledge of best practice for diversity and inclusion in the workplace; the ability to self-reflect on and mitigate implicit bias in self and support supervisees to do the same.
- The ability to skillfully give and receive feedback;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to bridge various points of view to support employees while also forwarding department goals;
Language Requirement – Ability to communicate effectively in English is required. Additional language proficiency or fluency preferred.
Physical Demands – Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Work Environment – Mostly in a typical office and/or home setting with quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions. Opportunity to work a hybrid schedule – remotely & onsite, as needed.
