Supervisor: Director of Special Needs\ Contract Length:190 day contract\ Job Classification: Professional Support\ FLSA Status: Non-exempt\ Compensation: \$18/hour
- Attend work on a reliable and consistent basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Work with Special Education teachers in an effort to assure ongoing assessment of social/emotional/behavioral strengths/weaknesses.
- Participate in staffing and problem solving meetings upon request.
- Gather data in an effort to monitor students behavioral progress as dictated by the identified students Individual Education Plan and Behavior Intervention Plan.
- Complete individual logs and reports in a timely manner.
- Respond immediately to crisis situations and implement de-escalation and crisis intervention methods as trained by the Fort Dodge Community School District.
- Encourage the families of the identified student to be involved in their students education and process.
- Develop and implement social skills curriculum.
- Provide technical expertise to regular and special education personnel regarding behaviorally challenging students.
- Model and coach school personnel on effective management and de-escalation techniques.
- Bachelors Degree in Human Services or a related field, or willingness to complete within 2 years.
- Prefer experience providing services directly to students identified as having special needs.
- Two years of successful work experience in a position in education, social work, counseling, human services, or a related field.
- Ability to maintain composure and provide calm and unemotional intervention.
- Ability to analyze data and determine appropriate interventions and programs for students at risk.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an educational team.
- Ability to engage and connect with students who are in crisis or have been traumatized.
- Working knowledge of effective strategies to meet the needs of students with challenging behaviors.
- Ability to influence and guide educational professionals in the provision of services for at-risk students.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board finds acceptable.
