Job Description

*This position has an earliest-available start date of July 24, 2023 as it will support one of our seven new Clubs opening in August 2023!*

Our Club staff members are educators, coaches, mentors, community leaders, and ambassadors. They don’t just open the doors of our Clubs – they open the door to new worlds and possibilities for kids and communities across Metro Denver.

When you join Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, you are part of a talented, mission-driven team that is singularly focused on making sure every child can achieve their greatest potential. We are curious and compassionate, diverse and dedicated, inspired and inspirational. And we love what we do.

The Before Care Lead Youth Development Specialist supervises, and implements a variety of high-yield activities and targeted programs revolving around these core areas: athletics, cultural arts, STEM, and education for our Before Care Program.

What you are good at:

  • Creating positive and supportive relationships with youth.
  • Basic classroom management and the ability to direct youth and provide them with clear steps and tools that support goals achievement.
  • Creative lesson planning. You put the necessary time and work into lesson planning, but also think about the fun things you did as a kid and include those, as well!
  • Thinking on your feet. You like learning new things, and you can learn quickly. When things change - and they will - you go with the flow and are productive.
  • Serving youth (at least one year of direct service). You have a demonstrable record of planning and implementing youth programs.

Extra Awesome Points:

  • You have previous experience working with youth.
  • You have a teaching certificate or background in education.
  • You are a Spanish speaker.

What we offer you:

  • A two-day, new hire orientation that breaks down the organization and your important, fun, connected place within it. You get to understand how your work drives our mission and makes an impact in kids’ lives.
  • Targeted youth professional onboarding in your first 90 days. This includes programming from our partnership with the Denver Afterschool Alliance and the SEAL Initiative.
  • An employer who invests in its team! Investing in our team is one of four strategic pillars at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Our internal promotion rate for 2021 was 61%. We focus on staff appreciation, professional development, trainings, and – of course – fun! Investing in YOU is a top priority.
  • Commitment to DEI in the workplace, which means ensuring access, opportunity, and advancement for our diverse team of 200+.
  • Paid sick leave that starts accruing on day 1!
  • The ability to read and write is necessary to complete reports, properly document programs, and utilize organizational data.
  • The successful candidate will primarily work indoors. Accordingly, the ability to use a variety of equipment including janitorial and office equipment is required.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to be insured under the company's insurance policy.
  • Outdoor work and moderate physically demanding activities may be required on occasion.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test that includes screening for marijuana, criminal and driving records investigations, and reference checks.
  • The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs.
