Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Audiologist is responsible for independent evaluation, interpretation, and diagnosis of auditory system function. Develops individualized recommendations, treatment plans, and provides patient/family counseling and education. Consults with medical team and allied health professionals and documents all pertinent clinical findings to render a comprehensive, family-based hearing health plan. Demonstrates flexibility and good communication skills and collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care.
Essential Job Outcomes & Functions
- In accordance with department guidelines and clinical standards, independently determines and administers appropriate screening or diagnostic battery and interprets findings. Makes service delivery decisions, communicates treatment plan to the referring physician, caregiver and others. Educates, counsels and supports patients/families as to the results and recommendations of the evaluation. Identifies patients' needs through critical analysis of clinical data to develop and execute a comprehensive audiologic treatment program. Communicates findings and treatment plan to patients/families with developmental, social, and cultural sensitivity. Fit and dispense hearing aids, as appropriate. Communicates with developmental, social and cultural sensitivity. Provides supervision to assigned (non CCS paneled) staff. Mentors new graduate and/or new-to-specialty Audiologists and assists in providing orientation and training to new staff members.
- Completes thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of care provided in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Manages time effectively and balances direct patient care requirements with other departmental expectations. Maintains productivity standards and manages resources in a cost effective manner.
- Communicates with team members, colleagues, patients, and families in a professional and positive manner, embodying MemorialCare values in daily interactions with others. Demonstrates clear and concise communication and is respectful and supportive of other team members. Works collaboratively with patients, families, healthcare team, and community agencies to provide education, resources, and referrals. Communicates with community agencies to facilitate continuity of care and carryover of skills at discharge.
- Sets goals for continued professional growth. Participates in formal and informal education to improve clinical skills and meet best practices standards. Completes core competencies relative to work area/population. Holds oneself accountable for meeting all jobs responsibilities, delegating to other team members, as necessary, to provide safe, quality patient care. Identifies and reports problems or conflict using an appropriate chain of command. Appropriately involved in student program.
- Demonstrates behaviors that support performance improvement activities through direct patient care and/or via participation in a workgroup, project, and/or program in the department or relevant unit/area as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $49.41/hr. - $71.00/hr.
Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience
- One year of clinical experience as a pediatric audiologist, at a minimum; three years of experience preferred
Education/Licensure/Certification
- CCS paneled or working to fulfill requirements.
- Doctorate Degree in Audiology (Master's Degree in Audiology may be accepted if graduated prior to 2007)
- Licensure by the California Audiology Board
- Recommended: Membership to the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), American Academy of Audiology (AAA), California Speech and Hearing Association (CSHA), and/or California Academy of Audiology (CAA)
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Heath Care Provider certification
