Location:

Located in the heart of downtown Providence, Rhode Island, the 294-room Graduate Providence is a landmark hotel with an illustrious past. Designed by the celebrated firm Warren and Wetmore, the architects behind New York City’s Grand Central Station, the hotel debuted to widespread acclaim in 1922 and quickly became the tourist and social center of Providence. Today, deeply woven within the city’s fabric and culture and beloved by generations of guests, the Graduate Providence is an authentic Providence tradition. Overview:
To assist the Director of Engineering in assigning and overseeing preventative maintenance and repairs related to the hotel’s building systems, hotel rooms, function space and related components, including but not limited to maintenance, inspection and testing of HVAC systems, environmental controls, refrigeration, as well as electrical and plumbing system, and their associates equipment and instrumentation.
Responsibilities:
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Review all guest and meeting planner comment cards to ensure problems are identified and corrected in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Ensure staff has proper safety equipment in place, MSDS forms are updated, and employees at all times are working in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure the hotel is in compliance with all local, state and federal laws
  • Follow up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause. Determine emergency status and report findings to the Front Desk immediately. Take immediate action as necessary.
  • Ensure that room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Create and implement a preventative maintenance program for hotel rooms and all hotel equipment
  • Approach all encounters with guess and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner. Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times. Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.
  • Comply at all times with Highgate standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Assist with Safety Committee Program, conduct safety committee meetings quarterly with Security and HR Director.
  • Ensure that all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested and certified
  • Maintain the property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in an acceptable state of repair
  • Other duties as required
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag while working.
  • Supervise and train all Engineering staff in standard operating procedures and loss prevention standards

Marginal:
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Participate in required M.O.D. coverage as scheduled.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the General Manager.
  • Assist as necessary with special projects and renovations
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • Must present professional appearance and be customer service oriented
  • Good communication skills
  • Working knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
  • Hotel maintenance experience preferred
  • All certifications and licenses need to be current and active
  • Minimum of four years training in HVAC, refrigeration – preferably with steam / boilers.
  • Need strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
Physical Requirements:
  • Heavy Work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Travel related to company business sometimes required.

  • Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc., from disparate sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
