International Education Division Associate Faculty (PT Faculty) Pool: Hotel and Tourism English as a Second Language (HTESL)


LOCATION: Lynnwood Washington


International Division Department Description
:

HTESL: It is the ESL instruction of a contracted partnership that the College has with TRAJAL Hospitality and Tourism College in Tokyo, Japan. This is a ten-month, in-person program that starts on March 20th, 2023 and the curriculum focuses on language specific to the hospitality and tourism industry and also practical English for students' relationships with their host families. HTESL instructors teach practical English in Grammar, Reading, and Speaking and Listening courses. Students in this program generally come with low-intermediate to high intermediate English language skills. The program included field trips, internships, guest speakers, and community service learning as it is possible to do so.


APPLICATION PROCESS:

We welcome educators to apply for this Associate (Part-time) faculty position. To be considered for this position, please follow the application procedure below.


This position is part of a pool that is open continuously. The pool serves to fill instructional positions when needed. If a position opens, applications will be reviewed. Applications remain on file for one year. If you wish to remain in the part-time pool beyond that time, you can update and resubmit your online application yearly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA or higher in TESL, or BA or higher in a related field plus a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language
  • Face-to-face and online teaching, classroom, or tutoring experience with English language learners
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience and expertise in designing and delivering culturally, linguistically, and socially equitable curriculum and assessments
  • Experience with a Learning Management System as an instructor
  • Ability to work collaboratively with advisers, faculty, staff in a diverse academic environment
  • Experience learning a second language
  • Familiarity with the Japanese language/culture

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in a classroom that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors typically use a personal computer in the work environment.


WORK SCHEDULE/SALARY
:

Work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $5,386.28 at Step A.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
:

  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
  • This position is part of a bargaining unit subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • We are requiring vaccination for all employees and students beginning Fall quarter. Exemptions may be accepted. This safety measure will allow the college to reopen safely and minimize risk against COVID-19 and its variants. Future requirements may be set in accordance with internal policies or changes in state or federal guidance.
