Job Description
Overview:
The Associate Director of Title IX Operations is responsible, under the direction of the Director of Gender Equity and Title IX Administration, for managing investigations and adjudications of sexual misconduct under Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act and the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2012 (VAWA). Title IX is the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination and sexual misconduct on college campuses. The Associate Director works closely with the University Investigators assigned to each matter and the students, faculty and staff who are the parties and their attorney-advisers. The Associate Director also assists the Director in delivering educational programming relating to relevant policies.
Responsibilities:

Oversee all operational aspects of sexual misconduct investigations and adjudications, including:

  • Serving as primary contact for parties/advisers throughout investigation/hearing process regarding operational issues
  • Overseeing operational aspects of investigation process, including ensuring that all case documents are produced by parties and witnesses and properly prepared for production (by Administrative Coordinator) to parties and attorney-advisers; preparing case file letters to parties; coordinating party responses to document productions; overseeing investigator preparation of investigative report; coordinating party responses to report

Serve as primary liaison for investigators during investigations

  • Oversee operational aspects of pre-hearing process, including coordinating pre-hearing meetings; obtaining proposed witness lists from parties and producing same to parties and hearing panel; providing instructions to parties and attorney-advisers
  • Oversee operational aspects of hearing process, including coordinating hearing logistics and instructions with hearing panel, parties, attorney-advisers, and witnesses; providing technical and witness support during hearings; obtaining closing statements from parties and producing same to parties and hearing panel; ensuring production of hearing transcripts to parties; coordinating deliberation meetings for hearing panel

Oversee production by Administrative Coordinator of case materials to hearing panel and appeal panel

  • Identify and integrate emerging best practices into investigations/hearings
  • Assist Director with preparation of outcome materials

Oversee all operational aspects of pregnancy accommodations process including:

  • Communicating/meeting with students and relevant school administrators regarding accommodations
  • Drafting accommodations letter
  • Facilitating resolution of any concerns regarding implementation of accommodations

Training and Communications:
  • Assist with development and facilitation of training/educational materials and communications materials, including Preventing Sexual Harassment online training for employees and graduate students and live trainings for students and employees
  • Oversee sexual misconduct and sexual misconduct investigations websites

Projects/Other:
  • Oversee, with partner offices, preparation of and dissemination of WeSpeak survey every four years
  • Prepare annual reports (internal and community)
Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications:
  • 7 or more years of relevant professional experience
  • Excellent analytical and communications skills (including writing) and attention to detail
  • Commitment to completing work on a timely basis and at the highest level of accuracy and quality
  • Ability to perform in a time sensitive environment and work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google drives
  • Ability to maintain objectivity and treat all individuals with respect and empathy
  • Ability to set priorities, balance multiple demands, and shift direction quickly
  • The highest level of professional judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and tact
  • Proven record of managing complex issues, communicating with diverse constituencies, meeting deadlines, prioritizing competing demands
  • Bachelor’s degree required (JD preferred)
  • Attention to detail; errors in this work can result in legal action and significant negative publicity; this aspect of the position is very high pressure (given the sensitive nature of these issues and the significant consequences of these matters)
  • Background in legal, investigative, or compliance work
