Associate Director of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices

The Associate Director of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices promotes student learning and development through the student conduct process by adjudicating cases of alleged student misconduct, guaranteeing all parties their rights of due process, and serving as a resource to various University departments and external partners regarding student misconduct, expectations, and policy compliance. The Associate Director provides leadership for the Office of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices in partnership with the Assistant Dean & Director, and serves in the capacity of Assistant Dean & Director in the Assistant Dean & Director's absence.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Associate Director is responsible for adjudicating students and student groups for alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct; conduct informal investigations and determine appropriate sanctions; educate and assist student in learning from misconduct, reflecting on their decision making and their impact on the community; and coordinate and serve as an administrator for Hearings. Provide consultation with community members around cases. Supervise two Coordinators who are full-time, master's level professionals. Provide oversight for Coordinator cases, provide training and professional development for Coordinators. Manage recruitment and hiring processes for vacancies.
Build and maintain relationship with collaborative offices including the Office of the Provost, academic departments, faculty, deans, and chairs; meet with students and assign appropriate sanctions in keeping with the Student Academic Integrity Policy; and provide educational sanctions for violations of the Student Academic Integrity Policy.
Support the office’s efforts to educate students around behavior and conflict through accountability action creation, implementation, and assessment. This includes supporting the creation and implementation of Restorative Practices resources, conflict coaching, conflict resolution skill building, preventative education, and mediation to students and student groups; coordinate restorative practice circles within the student conduct process; develop accountability actions related to conflict resolution; guide students’ reflections on their decision making and behavior during conflict; and provide outreach including workshops, training, and presentations that support the educational efforts of the office around topic of conflict resolution.
Provide outreach including workshops, training, and presentations that support the educational efforts of the office on topics that include off campus disruption, conflict resolution, Restorative Practices, policies, student group misconduct, FERPA, and other efforts the office is emphasizing. Participate on committees and task forces within the Division of Student Affairs and at the University level, university wide events like opening and commencement; and perform other duties as assigned.
Serve as a Hearing Officer for alleged violations of the Policy on Sexual Misconduct; provide fair and impartial adjudications and thoroughly written Hearing Reports; uphold rights of all parties and abide by the procedures as outlined; and seek review of decisions from General Counsel and the Title IX Coordinator.
Manage the Admissions and reenrollment disciplinary review process. Collaborate with the Office of Admissions and the Registrar's Office to receive documentation from applicants regarding their past disciplinary records, make decisions regarding admissions for low level past violations, gather documents to provide to the Character and Conduct Review Committee for their discernment for higher level cases, and convene the Character and Conduct Review Committee.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications and Skills
Master's Degree
Three years of experience in student conduct, student affairs, residence life, or related fields.
The selected candidate must have an understanding of student development in the conduct process and a commitment to student advocacy.
Committed to social justice work within the student conduct discipline.
Demonstrate strong administrative and organization skills.
Experience with student conduct, to include knowledge of current practices and legal issues.
Familiar with restorative practices as a philosophy
Exposure to Title IX issues.
Evidence of establishing effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
Exceptional communication skills.
Experience in resolving disputes, work efficiently in a fast paced environment and respond to emerging problems and crises.
