Job Description
The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director of Individual Philanthropy to serve as a senior member of the Individual Philanthropy team, overseeing a fundraising team and managing a portfolio of high-level donors who contribute vital support towards the Museum’s programs.


Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Individual Philanthropy, the Associate Director manages all aspects of a high-level giving program, including prospect identification, cultivation, one-on-one solicitation and stewardship activities, and appeals to support annual operations and programs.


Key Responsibilities


  • Works closely with the Research team to develop an ongoing pipeline of prospects to be managed by the major gifts team.
  • Develops calendar and manages donor cultivation events for various levels of individual donors and prospects; develops marketing collateral and solicitation materials as needed.
  • Working with the Director of Individual Philanthropy, defines quantifiable performance metrics, which can be regularly evaluated with leadership and can enhance learning and development for all members of the team.
  • Oversees creation and dissemination of general departmental correspondence and promotional materials.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of donors and prospects in support of programs across the Museum, including Director’s Council, Modern Fund, Membership, Exhibitions, Learning and Engagement, and other special programs, including capital campaigns.
  • Manages the department’s $10K+ individual giving program and develops strategies to support prospecting campaigns and donor engagement.
  • Manages reporting and forecasting for the major gifts portfolio.
  • Works with External Affairs colleagues to develop strategic and donor-centric strategies and to solicit and steward the Museum’s most generous donors.
  • Manages the individual philanthropy expense budget.
  • Coordinates Museum tours for donors and other VIPs. Supports and attends related donor events and programs as needed.
  • Supervises Individual Philanthropy (Development) Officers and Associate. Participates in recruitment for select open positions and makes hiring recommendations or decisions for staff vacancies; supervises assigned staff on daily basis, providing relevant training, feedback, guidance, professional development, etc.; ensures compliance with and comprehension of Museum policies and relevant collective bargaining agreement; manages the constructive discipline process, as warranted; conducts annual performance reviews with direct staff; etc.
  • Solicits six- and seven-figure gifts from individuals.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.


Requirements


  • Knowledge of and interest in modern and contemporary art.
  • Ability to manage many projects simultaneously and with keen attention to detail.
  • Aptitude with budgets and financial documentation.
  • Superior interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills; experience creating effective solicitation letters and proposals.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, especially under deadlines
  • Ability to work in a collaborative setting that involves shared decision-making and program responsibility.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable.
  • A team player with an attitude of service and ability to motivate others.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of seven years of frontline fundraising experience. Proven experience securing seven-figure gifts. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as required.
  • Effective and professional negotiating and diplomacy skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, and Salesforce or other donor-management systems.

Salary range: Minimum of $130,000 to a maximum of $145,000 per annum
