Associate Director - Disability Pricing

Responsibilities

This role is responsible for providing business and financial analysis to support new business and renewal pricing strategies for Sun Life's Group Short-Term Disability (STD) and Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) products.

Pricing:

  • Develop and monitor new business and renewal pricing programs.
  • Maintain and improve pricing tools and models.
  • Perform regular experience studies to update manual rates and other pricing formulas to support profitable growth of the business.
  • Respond to internal and external audits for managed products.
  • Manage required regulatory rate filings to approval.
  • Support new product initiatives, including product development, pricing and governance.

Profitability Management:

  • Provide input to Business and Strategic Plan forecasts.
  • Develop data, metrics and processes for effective financial management of the products.
  • Provide analysis to develop a deep understanding of macro and micro drivers impacting results.
  • Enable management to react proactively to keep products competitively positioned.
  • Monitor market and economic conditions to allow identification of issues/risks on a timely basis.
  • Evaluate product financial performance, communicating to management and functional areas.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • The role may involve direct management of one or more actuarial students, including recruitment and evaluation of performance.
  • Contribute to building a high-performance team, providing leadership and coaching to actuarial students on the team.
  • Work in collaboration with Pricing, Underwriting, Product, Finance, Valuation and other teams.

Qualifications

  • FSA and/or FCIA with relevant work experience.
  • Familiarity with Group Benefits product pricing would be an asset.
  • Intellectually curious and driven to understand underlying factors impacting results.
  • Strong project management skills with a proven commitment to quality and meeting deadlines while handling multiple priorities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or another field requiring rigorous analysis.
  • Strong analytical & technical skills to identify and track performance drivers, detect patterns in results.
  • Ability to apply advanced financial concepts and capabilities across business processes.
  • Strong initiative and drive for results.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.

If you are a California resident, the salary range for this position is:
Southern region: $ 137,200 - 205,800 annually
Central region: $ 144,700 - 217,000 annually
Northern region: $ 154,600 - $232,000 annually
If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $130,900 - $196,500 annually.
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $154,600 - $232,000 annually.
If you are Washington resident, the salary range for this position is $144,700 - 217,000 annually.
The full range minimum and maximum listed in the job posting is tied to the GCF level and job family.
