ASSISTANT SURVEYOR

Future Salary Increases:

** July 2024 - 5.5% increase to base pay
(2.75% Across-the-Board + 2.75% Market Increase)

In addition to the base salary listed above, employees in this job class will receive a 5% pay premium for possessing a current and valid State of California registration as a civil engineer or
holds a valid California State Land Surveyor’s License.

This position is eligible for appointment at Step 1 $
81,806.40. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.

The County of San Diego has current openings for Assistant Surveyor. This is the entry-level class in the Surveyor series. Assistant Surveyors independently perform land-surveying projects of moderate complexity. Incumbents may also serve as chiefs over crews of subordinate paraprofessional or technical staff in the field and lead subordinate staff performing office assignments in support of survey projects. The main duties are as followed:

  • Interprets deeds and maps.
  • Conducts field surveys for construction, design, topographic, photogrammetric, geodetic, hydrographic, property right-of-way, and all types of control surveys.
  • Prepares field notes and sketches.
  • Determines exact location of points, elevations, lines, and areas.

HIRING PROCESS AND TIMELINE:
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins shortly after interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1). A bachelor's degree in land surveying from a college or university approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (A.B.E.T); OR;

2). A valid Land Surveyor-in-Training (L.S.I.T) certificate, AND (two) 2 years of professional land surveying work.

NOTE: A copy of a college/university diploma, official transcript, unofficial transcript, letter of verification, Foreign Equivalency Certificate (if college education was obtained outside of the US), or L.S.I.T. must be attached during Step 1 of the online application submittal process at the time of application.
