As one of the fastest-growing academic health centers in the nation, the Texas A&M University Health Science Center encompasses five colleges and numerous centers and institutes working together to improve health through transformative education, innovative research and team-based health care delivery.
What we want
The Center for Health Equity and Evaluation Research (CHEER) seeks an Assistant Director of Projects. CHEER engages in interdisciplinary research and evaluation services to examine emerging health needs of underserved and vulnerable populations. The Assistant Director of Projects will serve as the project director for Center-supported research projects and will be responsible for coordinating project initiation and implementation, supporting and leading research dissemination activities, and maintaining partnerships with schools, hospitals, and other community organizations. The position will require advanced administrative, project management, supervision, and training duties and regional and national travel.

Required Education:
  • Appropriate Ph.D degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience:
  • Relevant professional experience working in and with schools, hospitals or other community organizations.
  • Research experience (e.g., participating in research team or leading research team).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of word processing, power point, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
Preferred Education:
  • Ph.D. in Health Education, Health Behavior, Psychology, Public Health, Education, or related field (e.g., Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, Educational Psychology)
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in direct supervision of staff or students
  • 1 year of post-doctoral research experience
  • 5 or more years of professional experience working in and with schools, hospitals or other community organizations.
  • Experience in leading/co-leading a large-scale research project as project coordinator, project manager, or project director
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to lead, coordinate, and supervise the work of others
  • Skills in manuscript development and publication
  • Demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with PIs, staff, and students
  • Ability to understand and translate advanced research concepts to lay audiences
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and strong presentation skills
  • Strong academic writing skills
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate research
Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Coordinates project initiation (e.g., establishment of community partnerships, oversees participant recruitment, development of research protocols under direction, submission and monitoring of research compliance protocols). Coordinates project implementation (e.g., supervise and monitor integrity of adherence to research protocols; engages in and supervises research activities to support project implementation; maintains community partnerships and supervises others in community outreach; supervises others in the implementation of research support activities)
  • Research Development and Dissemination: Supports research dissemination activities of PIs (e.g., co-author publications, policy reports, presentations, community outreach engagement). Consults PIs on the development and enhancement of research projects and protocols. Independently assesses and leads research dissemination activities related to core project goals (e.g., co-author publications, policy reports, presentations, community outreach engagement). Assists PIs in the development of extramural grant applications
  • Administrative: Oversees project research compliance protocols (e.g., IRB application submission and reporting compliance). Assists in the development of project and Center evaluation reports. Develops and implements community outreach and engagement strategies
  • Supervision and Training: Supervises others in research and community outreach and engagement. Trains others in project related tasks to support research activities. Other duties as assigned.
