Job Description

General Responsibilities:
Evaluate and interpret subsurface field and sampling data including soil and groundwater to develop conclusions concerning the environmental and geologic site conditions. Participate in subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling or in-situ testing techniques. Drilling may include auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, and diamond bit coring techniques. Work also includes installation of instrumentation, piezometers and monitor wells. Collaborate with engineering and environmental scientist staff on projects. Oversee field monitoring and testing of soils including boring investigations and soil type classification. Interpret soil, bedrock and groundwater elevation and quality data. Work as part of a multiple person team on projects. Field locate required exploration points and determine elevations of points. Develop site reconnaissance information. Load soil samples, exploration tools and instrumentation/well installation tools and supplies onto trucks or drill rigs. Prepare and review boring logs using Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) and basic standard rock classifications and site description forms. Provide input as to how to best perform exploration tasks. Report required maintenance to supervisor and perform maintenance tasks as required. Prepare written plans and reports related to site investigations, assessments and remediation activities. Projects may include construction projects focusing on earthwork and structural foundations; well design and sampling; environmental assessments including Phase II site assessments.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Developing level Geologist responsible for conducting analyses of component portions of projects; assignments are designed to develop knowledge and abilities.
  • Conducts water, soil and other sampling.
  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • Outlines required investigative program(s) by selecting the proper alternative techniques to conduct site studies in field of expertise.
  • Trained in duties pertaining to test borings, CPT and SCPT exploration and/or installation of groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Assists in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan and permit projects.
  • Drives medium duty trucks to various job sites.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field.
  • Ability to obtain Medical Card within first 30 days of employment
Preferred Certification:
  • OSHA 40-Hour Course
  • CPR/First Aid Trained
