Job Description

The principal role of the Assistant Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is to implement Manufacturing Methods and Safety at the manufacturing plant. The right individual will have a thorough understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements including regulatory and compliance. This is a role in a Manufacturing Plant. The HSE EHS Specialist will need to be familiar with today’s current manufacturing techniques. As a global automotive company, we believe in a clean environment. Responsibilities

  • Track compliance for the various Federal, State and Local environmental requirements
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and maintain appropriate Health, Safety, Environmental, Industrial and Process Safety Programs and necessary related training.
  • Ensure any plant hazardous waste - oil, machining fluid is disposed correctly. Lead Safety and Hazard assessments activities including Process Hazard Analysis, Job Safety Analysis.
  • Perform facility audits, surveys and inspections to identify environmental and occupational hazards, to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and develop recommendations that provide solutions, remedies or process improvement.
  • Adheres to the HTGSS policies and procedures
  • Schedule of routine inspections, and implement training according to findings
  • Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Prepare, submit and document all EPA and OSHA requirements up to but not limited to OSHA 300 log, CAA, CWA, RCRA, storm water / waste water, Title V, PSM/RMP, SARA 311, 312, 313, Form R and Hazardous waste generator as well as Air Emissions annual inventory report.
  • Lead all EHS requirements as an example for others to follow.
  • Meets company safety goals
  • Create a culture of awareness, acceptance & adherence to the EHS requirements.
  • Oversee all chemical and hazardous waste management, including transportation.
  • Recommend and implement new Green Processes while working closely with regulatory and corporate compliance via established auditing processes and risk analysis - work on various items with EPA, OSHA
  • Always strives to maintain a positive work environment
  • Treats all HTGSS team members with respect and professional courtesy
  • Lead Safety Team and Waste Minimization Team programs to resolve or improve EHS performance.
  • Develop and implement training for all personnel to assure understanding and compliance of EH&S programs and environmental permit conditions.
  • Audit, analyze and collate EHS performance data and proposes effective improvements
  • Complies with all safety policies and 5S clean philosophy to maintain a safe, clean working environment
  • Performs additional assignments / duties as assigned
  • Administer and manage the Workers Compensation program.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Complies with all HTGSS Certification standards; Management System (TS16949), Environmental ISO 14001-2015 and Health and Safety ISO 45001-2018 policies and procedures
  • Attend training and seminars - then deliver training to staff in EHS/HSE/SHE skills and knowledge.
  • Manage SDS data - ensure safety in material handling.
  • Manages the department budget efficiently as per approved annual budget
  • Support and account for the EHS budget, including timely review of EHS related invoices.
  • Proactively meets KPI requirements in order to reduce exposure and control risk.


Qualifications

  • Ability to compile effective and concise visual reports in charts, graphs, and table format.
  • Must have experience with implementation/certification ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
  • Experience in risk management, ergonomics, personnel protective equipment, industrial safety, injury and incident investigation, reporting, auditing and training.
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of automotive plants and processes/principles, company products, trade terminology, and manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Ability to exercise exceptional independent judgment and discretion with the ability to take initiative on assigned tasks without significant supervision, or be a successful member of a team.
  • Experience partnering with HR colleagues to address the needs of differing business units while considering alignment with company objectives.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent presentation, delivery, and facilitation skills; ability to engage an audience.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals at all levels within in a multicultural environment and with outside agencies, vendors, contractors, and regulatory representatives.
  • Systematic thinking ability and strong liaison and management skills.
  • 8+ years EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of HRIS Systems
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, NFPA and HAZWOPER requirements.
  • Experienced with ADP and SAP preferred
  • Thoroughly understand regulatory requirements, including OSHA and EPA compliance standards, as well as regulations related to storm water / wastewater, RCRA, PSM/RMP, Title V, CAA, CWA, Form R, Air Emissions reporting and other federal, state and local laws.
  • Successful track record of designing and managing employee safety, worker’s compensation and drug testing programs.
  • 5+ years in an EHS leadership/management role is ideal
  • Demonstrated skills in database maintenance and record keeping
  • Knowledge and ability to implement process improvements and program.
  • Must have working knowledge of ISO 9001, TS 16949
  • Ability to read and interpret training related documents for both office and production environments such as technical data, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Experience in a corporate and/or multi-site manufacturing setting experience.
  • Experience at an Automotive OEM and/or Tier 1 supplier is helpful


Education:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is desirable.
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering or other relevant discipline; or Associates Degree in EHS.
