Key Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of the campus Dangerous Materials Storage Facility.
- Manage the campus environmental compliance programs for air, water, spill response, and hazardous waste. This may include directly and through others performing assessments, training, providing guidance to other campus departments, and other miscellaneous services to maintain campus compliance.
- Serve as the primary liaison between S&T EHS and environmental regulators (state and/or federal).
- Attend required training to maintain certifications and/or licenses.
- Collaborate with the facility operations and design and construction and space management personnel in the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs.
- Conduct audits of environmental compliance programs.
- Review new construction and remodeling plans and provide comments on design.
- As delegated by the S&T EHS director, perform assigned administrative responsibilities for the environmental health and safety department. Assume responsibility for all departmental administration and operations in the director’s absence.
- Complete and file any required regulatory permits and/or necessary reporting for compliance with applicable environmental protection agency regulations.
- Maintain current information regarding federal and state environmental and safety regulations applicable to Missouri S&T. Develop, revise, and/or audit programs to maintain compliance with said regulations.
- Manage professional and/or technical staff conducting field studies and tests for environmental and safety conditions in and around university facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- A professional certification in an appropriate area of expertise preferred (e.g. CIH, CHP, CSP, CHMM, etc.)
- A valid driver’s license
- Must be able to wear a (full face) respirator (fit test and medical examination will occur within 6 months of hire)
- Must submit to a baseline and periodic physical exams as required by law
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering preferred
- Four years’ experience in laboratory and/or research activities preferred
- Supervisory experience
