Position Description

The Assistant Director for Employer Engagement is a new position in the Office of Graduate Education (OGE) at Harvard Medical School (HMS). The incumbent will play an important role in supporting a diverse and
international community of over 500 master’s students and 1300 doctoral students with backgrounds in scientific research, medicine and nursing. The Assistant Director for Employer Engagement will build partnerships to help students leverage their degrees in the biological, biomedical and social sciences for their next professional development steps. The Assistant Director for Employer Engagement will report to the Assistant Dean for Student Development and Evaluation and will join a team that includes a Career Advisor, a Coordinator, and an Evaluation Analyst.

The Assistant Director of Employer Engagement will independently perform a range of tasks related to career services including employer outreach and engagement, event planning and delivery, creation of promotional material, and communication with internal and external partners, including:
  • Develop and analyze reports and statistics; provide reports to management to assist with setting the strategic direction of the career services function
  • Manage collaborative efforts, along with partners at other schools, to develop and deliver career fairs Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations
  • Assist in planning and implementing strategies to attract new employers and organizations
  • Oversee on-campus recruitment events, programming featuring alumni and employers, and other networking activities
  • Develop strong relationships with recruiters and potential employers; build and maintain relationships with alumni
  • Oversight of job postings in our Career Management System

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Education: Master's degree in higher education administration, career counseling, business administration, or related field, or PhD in life sciences with relevant job experience.
Skills and experience:
  • Experience working with tools such as LinkedIn and Career Services Management systems (Symplicity preferred)
  • Adept in thinking strategically and managing projects
  • Proficiency using a variety of computer software and systems
  • Strong customer service orientation and capacity to engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Aptitude and enthusiasm for acquiring knowledge on a wide array of career topics
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team
  • Five or more years of demonstrated experience in university relations, corporate recruiting, human resources, employer relations, business development, or relationship management
  • Direct knowledge of life sciences, healthcare or related career paths across industries and sectors is highly desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and organizational skills
  • Understanding of employers and hiring practices in one or more areas of interest to HMS students (biological and biomedical sciences, healthcare, global health, social and behavioral sciences, private and public sector) strongly preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion
  • Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time

This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
