Description
- CSUMB provides pay scales representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for this position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, and CSU systemwide pay for comparable jobs.
- Assists in coordinating and participating in Summer Bridge by supporting program/workshop development, onboarding students and coverage.
- Incumbent advises students in regards to academic progress and is proactive in providing interventions and making appropriate referrals to campus resources to support student success. Monitors academic standing of Guardian Scholar students and will be responsible for the retention, and graduation of Guardian Scholar students. Serve as back-up EOP Advisor and assist colleagues.
- Responsible for the planning and coordination of the Guardian Scholars Program, including: targeted outreach to former foster youth, wards of the court, unaccompanied homeless youth, and youth under legal guardianship. Oversee the program’s application process and stays current on eligibility/documentation requirements. Maintains contact with all foster youth applicants to aid their admission process and provide guidance about their application, outstanding documentation, and their admission status. Works collaboratively with local child welfare agencies, area high schools, and community colleges, and assists in attracting a diverse undergraduate student population. Attends conferences/meetings and keep abreast of new developments/legislation on issues addressing current and former foster youth, access and equity programs and academic advising. Participates in foster youth advocacy and advisory councils. Responsible for responding to all Guardian Scholars referrals received.
- Conducts 1:1 meetings with students to identify their challenges, consider and discuss options in a realistic evaluation, , assess the aptitudes and abilities as related to their particular needs and circumstances, select suitable educational or vocational goals, and implement corrective measures to alleviate skill deficiencies, and providing referrals to on and off campus partners and advocacy. Maintains appropriate documentation of services provided and manages electronic student file documentation of students. Coordinate continuity of care for Guardian Scholar students who need assistance in addition to basic needs services which may include academics, mental health and the navigation of university processes.
- Responsible for collecting, organizing, creating and submitting quarterly and/or annual reports summarizing efforts that include data, recommendations and any other ad hoc reports requested by EOP Associate Director and CSP Director. Provide insight, direction and recommendations to unique and sometimes sensitive issues, and is expected to independently and collaboratively resolve complex problems through the use of highly effective communication skills. Support the development and funding efforts of the Guardian Scholars Program, including but not limited to completing prospect research on potential funds/foundations, writing/submitting grants, writing/submitting grant progress reports, managing multiple grant budgets and conducting presentations to potential funders.
- Trains and supervises paraprofessional student staff. Maintains good communication with student staff and assists with professional development activities/trainings.
- Evaluate all programs and services and lead improvement efforts accordingly.
- This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and will be required to participate in annual training and to immediately forward to the Clery Director all reports of crimes brought to their attention pursuant to the Clery Act and California State Education Code, Chapter 16, of the Donahue Higher Education Act, Section 67380.
- This position will have a duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to victims of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence, and stalking as required by CSU Executive Order 1095.

- This position is required to comply with confidentiality requirements outlined in the Department of Education’s Family Educational Rights and Privacy and California’s Educational Code Chapter 13 regarding sensitive student issues.

- Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University's liability coverage.
- The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
- This position has been designated as a sensitive position with responsibility for the care, safety and security of people (including children and minors), animals and CSU property; responsibility or access/possession of building master or sub-master keys for building access; access to and responsibility for detailed personally identifiable Level 1 confidential information about students, faculty, staff or alumni that is protected, personal or sensitive as defined in the CSU Information Security Data Classification Standards
