Job Description
Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located at the National Museum of the American Latino (NMAL), Smithsonian Institution (SI). NMAL is a national museum dedicated to enriching the appreciation of America's Latino heritage and empowering Latino American communities in their sense of inclusion with the national culture. Responsibilities The Assistant Director of Finance advises the Associate Director of Operations and Finance on all financial aspects of NMAL and has responsibility over NMAL’s budget, finance, procurement, audit and human resources (HR). In this position, you will: Direct the development, justification, execution, and control of the Museum’s federal and trust budgets to include short and long-term planning. Establish budget and financial operating policies and procedures integral to the accomplishment of the Museum’s goals and objectives. Develop and make final recommendations to the Director on all federal, trust, and museum project budgets. Serve as museum contact, representative, and liaison on all budgetary issues including budget justifications, audits, and special negotiations. Direct the procurement program to assure compliance with law and policy; establishes internal policies and procedures. Exercise the full range of supervision over a growing number of administrative staff with primary financial and procurement responsibilities. This position requires annual submission of OGE Form 450 - Confidential Financial Disclosure Report. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as directing the development and execution of the museum’s Federal and Trust budget including accounting, procurement, and auditing; managing administrative staff; and providing oversight of personnel functions within a museum. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week. Education There are no basic education requirements for this position. Additional Information This position is not included in the bargaining unit.
